Title says it all.
I want to mount cells in a sealed cannister.
Will the cells vent when charged or being discharged?

nope. They only vent when they are self destructing. In the event that they do VENT you won't want them in a sealed canister, they might Xplode!

They do give off a tiny amount of gas, as part of their aging process, but it's nothing like what single-use lithium give off.

Flashlights have o-rings and tailcap switch boots that might allow for excess pressure to find a way out and are maybe less likely to build excessive pressure like a pipe bomb.

Depends on the light. I gave my brother an Arc P a couple of years ago, and the outgassing from the Energizer Lithium AAA built up so much pressure he had to use pliers to unscrew it. Messed up the finish but good.

I never knew all this time I was doing myself a favor by compulsively playing with my flashlights, taking them apart and putting them back together all the time.

normally they would not, its all about Quality, all the way around when your making a dive light type of item.
and to not increase the pressure on closure.

i splain, the anode disconnect stops power from flowing from the battery, whenever there "would be" a gas departure, or prior to a gas departure, if there is more than one normal atmosphere of pressure , however that would occur, including one of the cells going beyond spec or having been aged, or air pressure increase of other sorts, the anode disconnect would not releace as easily, making a bad situation far worse.
once releaced or popped then the cell can gas out, but normal proper charging and discharging within specs , should not releace enough gas normally to effect the situation.

Quality, of the cell, quality of the charge and proper balance of the cell, and quality maintance, which is a whole heck of a lot longer between with good quality cells. with chit cells, you would be in a position to replace them all every year for maintance, with good quality cells every 3 years.

so its entirely possible, probable , being done all the time, and could be done. you would just want to make sure that things are great stuff all the way around, and properly maintain it.

preferance would be that the charging be done with the containment opened, putting a releace in wouldnt much help. and dont let the cells get bad or charge with a bad alogrythm that doesnt properly slow down and stop at end of charge, and proper balancing should be applied to any series set of batteries.

even the new enloops have a seal that would not do its pressure cooker releace thing , if the pressure is higer than one atmosphere around the cell, which could cause an issue during charging in containment. the PROPER alogrythm for charging li-ion should not be gassing the cells, in fact it is actually more likly to happen with a "proper" ni-mhy or ni-cd charging alogrythm, its just with a li-ion type of overheat situation can be more explosive.

with all that in mind, i am not recommending it or condemming it for a sealed application, in the rarity that it would be a problem, it would be a big problem. being humans and all, and having a lot of crap out there, i disclaim any responcibility for the crap, but would certannly do that with quality, and maintance.

Too many commas instead of periods, and too many pronouns.

I tend to be a grammar Nazi, but I only speak up when the problem gets in the way of my comprehension. In this case, that post looked fairly informative, but I got two paragraphs in and gave up trying to read it.

For your information, VidPro is one of the most knowledgeable people on CPF, and his posts are ALWAYS worth reading.

You should spend more time on acquiring knowledge, which you lack, and less on rudeness and pedantry.

Bad grammar and punctuation detract from an otherwise informative post, I had to read it several times to make sense of it, I'd be surprised if I was the only one.

If all incorrectly punctuated or grammatically imperfect posts were pulled to pieces, few would survive the process. For example, your use of commas there is incorrect.

sorry but there are things i am avoiding, weasiling around on, and trying to squeak out a "how to" withough indicating that everything everyone is buying is pure crap, and that is the real problem.
that the flashlight you now own, that actually increases pressure around the cell is a disaster waiting for a place to happen, and that a dive canistar full of cruddy li-ion from china is nothing but a depth charge :) It just isn't that way, but there are things that need to be known.

the OP will get it, they are the ones seeking the info. things like this are done EVERYDAY, just because its classified as a sealed container , doesnt make it different from a $300 surfire light. I am not intending on hacking up things that are working just fine, to explain the possible problems that exist, so around the bush i beat.

if you want further explaination, text me , i can do it in 3 words :)

and put this Period in there somewhere (.)
