So I kinda new to the torch game but I have a few decent lights I have obtained through the years.

I wanted a nice EDC light for work and they won't cough up any money to buy a good one. ( they are using rayovac industrial yellow plastic flashlights)

I recently bought an Olight S1 rose gold to fit the edc role. When I received it I decided it was way to pretty to use and I would be pissed if dropped it. Do you actually use copper / brass lights ?

I am am now thinking about trading it for a S1R.

Thanks

Yeah sure, all the time. When its something like raw copper or brass it doesn't matter if its nicked or develops a patina, its part of the character. If its a coated light, yeah it kinda sucks if it gets scratched but that's true of any light, even aluminum.

Yeah, carried Brass and Copper lights for the last few years, always make a point to not drop my lights, but it has happened a few times all the same. Being able to make my own helps, but even if you are just able to mod or do basic solder work to fix them, it helps a lot in the event you do break a driver.

I have a Sinner Cypreus 18650 mini triple copper.

I don't use it. It's simply way too heavy for EDC in my pocket.

I also have a Manker E14. It's not entirely copper, but a big chunk of the head is. I also don't use it for the same reason... too heavy.

I do not own any copper/brass lights but this goes for anything I buy: I buy items to use, so no matter what they are, they get used as they were designed. If i bought something too expensive/nice to use, I'd move it to a better home or not purchase it in the first place.

Part of the great process of owning raw materials, is to let it patina and build character. On copper/brass, the patina can always be cleaned/polished to make it new again if need be. If you happen to drop it and it gets scuffed/dinged; then that's just character and it's new pesonality (which was previously mentioned)

Some people like to collect or have shelf queens, That is not me. If I can't talk myself into using something for the same reason you are asking, then it goes to a better home, where it can be used or sit on a shelf looking pretty. Just my opinion/thoughts on the matter

I've got lots of copper lights and carry them often. I like the patina they get when they're being handled and used. When they sit on a shelf they just get brown, like an old penny.

Here's some of my copper lights with various levels of carry/patina:

Oh yeah, thanks for posting emarkd, beautiful collection!

Bubbaskyjackers issue: buy cheap lights for work and nice lights for personal EDC. I'm in a similar situation but much worse. Boss is too cheap to replace 8' bulbs or ballasts all over the shop so I HAVE to have a decent light on me at all times.
Recently got a Skilhunt H03 headlamp for crazy cheap, after getting it I wished I had bought one for work also. Lo and behold I found a massive coupon over on BLF and ordered one for work also.
I had been using my SC62d as the one light I'd carry all the time but it's a rough work environment and non-flashoholics would occasionally borrow it so I got something that had less value but still decent. One guy could never figure out how to turn it off, held the button for too long or couldn't double click. Reminded me of this:

Nice collection there. Not all copper patinas in the same way. My first Cooper light the maratac AAA looked horrible as it aged - not so with the toolvn, which looks lovely to me:

I also love shiny copper that doesn't tarnish:

The copper is super heavy, obviously- it weighs more than my olight S2. , I got the "rose gold" S1 and I don't think it translated well. Because rose gold is copper looking and the one I have is gold, pvd coating what ever that is. So it won't get that cool patina.

That collection is sweet !

Yeah i I get a little nervous loaning my nice personal tools to people at work.

bling is fun, do what you can to keep it nice, but dont deny yourself the right to use it too

Yes I use copper lights, its my thing, one in pocket, one in car, one in backpack, a couple spares at home with different LED heads, 3000k XPG, 4500k Nichia

Astrolux coats their copper, so it stays shiny, but has none of the germicidal benefits (see my sig)

If the Lad was copper, Id be even happier, Worm Head w Nichia on Maratac body is my personal favorite

I also use a copper water bottle, sometimes also as a bed warmer, in a sock

I am in need of a copper but I carry my brass Prometheus with my all the time. Despite not being a very expensive example, I always carry my gear no matter how pretty or overpriced, hehe. I don't mind other people having shelf queens but if I buy something it is to use. Just my two cents.

One of my keychains has had a 10180 fairy brass on it since they became available. Most can't believe it is so bright. Nice patina on it now and works as if it were new!

Yep, rotated I have olight i3s brass, it has the best thread action EVER. I have the little copper i3e too, I constantly rub one side of it so 50% is shiny 50% is patina. Love it !
