Do you actually use your strobe functions? For what purpose?

So far, 3 of my 5 higher end LED flashlights have strobe functions, and 2 dont(Solarforce L2P w/ Thrunite XM-L 3 mode, and BC-10). I tried to get a 5 mode module w/strobe for my L2P, but they were out of them at the time, and it didnt seem like a big deal since I never use the strobe anyway.

My 700 Lumen iTp A6 has a VERY bright and VERY obvious strobe function. I just learned on a Goinggear review that iTp is Olight, or it is an Olight brand. If I needed a strobe, I'd want THAT light with me!

But there are only 2 things I can think of using a strobe for. First would be if you were stuck out in the desert or on top of a mountain, either scenario with a broken leg, so you couldnt walk, and for some reason the rescue party out looking for you did a night rescue, and you able to use your strobe to alert them to your position. But if that were the case, ANY bright flashlight even without a strobe would probably suffice, but maybe be just a little less effective.

The 2nd scenario, would be if you were working with a team of assassins or special forces, and you needed a silent way to signal at night to start the attack on the enemy, then a strobe might be good, except the enemy might see it, and you might be wiped out......

Whenever I've done night-time, covert attacks against enemy positions for Delta force, we used clickers or made bird sounds, then we overwhelmed them with explosive-tipped arrows and throwing knives(LOL!)

Anyway, I never actually have found any real use for the strobes on my lights, but maybe people here have found other uses for them aside from desert rescues or compound bow attacks against Vietnamese guards holding US POW's in prison camps.....😀

I have one light on me that has a strobe, and someguy took the time to help me program my Rotary to have a triple click strobe. I found it extremely useful for signaling e.g. getting the immediate attention of someone within our public service providers. However, the light is pointed in their direction, but to the ground and not directly at the person/s.

strobe is overrated. at close range it gets attention but is annoying. at long range strobe smoothens out and appears to be only flickering

but a slow 4hz strobe is kinda useful. gets attention near or far and not as annoying. i use it to signal my location

Best use I've ever found for it is when tickle-attacking nieces/nephews; something about combining hectic lighting with the tickling sends kids into histrionics..

I'm happy to have a strobe/beacon function if it's buried, for the off chance that I'm either lost and signaling for help or broken down on a freeway at night and don't want people to crash into me.

Originaly the strobe is meant to disturb the opponent - the enemy. When you participate in the rifle charging (painball,...)
at the dark place, you can use your strobe function to disturbe your enemy and take advantage of the surprise factor.
In such conditions, it is difficult to move between obstacles, and fire at the same time.a

and another case when the strobe can become usefull is if you are in the way of the charging animal (dog, bear,....),
especially if it's dark, the animal will become dezoriented....more or less....

Use it to scare-off wild-animals in the forest, or to signal to people in there cars -when they are using there hi-beams and don't wanna turn-off.

I've used mine to move undesirable wildlife along. Skunks in particular really seem to dislike the strobe and usually move on without arming their weapon.....

When I go and pick up the kids at night, I use the strobe on approach. I stick an orange diffuser on top, and hold it through the sunroof. They can see me a mile away, and start making their way to the pick-up point. Needless to say, they hate it - but it works. I am not weird, right?

Making myself (and those with me) visible on pedestrian crossings at night, keeping away upset stray dogs, drawing attention of people I'm supposed to meet in crowds or noisy places (usually in conjunction with cell phone).

So far I've found out that reckless drivers here (a widespread species indeed) react to strobe quickly and hit the brakes, probably thinking they're being pulled over by the traffic police. I'm perfectly aware that this isn't a rule so I'm not trying to force my way across the road, just being noticed.

I want to get one of those underwater beacon strobes. Like the ones you can see from orbit.

Just for the cool factor.

The light atop the Luxor Casino is the only single light source visible from space; even pointing a Wicked Arctic laser directly at an orbiter (1 watt of light focused into a laser beam) would still not be visible..

It's an intersting question. As I can see, many of you use strobe to disorient wild animals.
In Germany there are just a few really "dangerous" animals, and in Germany most people don't like or use the strobe-mode. Perhaps there ist a correlation between this.
