Does the flashlight fit in your mouth?

I've done it many times but am more hesitant after the reports of lead painted toys coming from China and most of my lights are made in China.
Made in USA... :grin2:

Why not carry an AA or AAA light, then you could stick it behind your ear, like a pencil:crackup:

I have average ears, yet my Fenix LOD AAA only seems to balance behind my ear if I do not move suddenly. So I also find myself popping it into my mouth at least a couple times a day so that I can experience that hands-free freedom.

I think this whole germ thing is getting way too much press these days, giving people germ phobia. Mankind has been around now for well over a million years, yet we have had running water and hand soap for only the last few hundred years.

Don't they say that the inside of your mouth is loaded with germs anyway? So I'm more worried about the safety of my precious LOD!

I have a wonderful set of chipped teeth from holding things in my mouth (Lights, tools, tape measures, pencil-pen etc etc). I am slowly running out of my own teeth :mecry:
I have been a great fan of headlamps for the last few years (since exiting the military and getting rid of that "I am a target feeling" that only a soldier with a headlamp on a 2 way firing range knows"). :xyxgun:

I have never given a thought to any "germs" that may be on equipment and I have this philosophy that today's sanitised people are leaving themselves vulnerable to minor infections because they have no natural antibodies. As for the possible "Lead" poisoning, well I should have died in my crib many decades ago if that was an issue. Hey I used to spray paint cars with lead based paints and no face mask and I am still alive and reasonably healthy 50+ years. :tired:

No! Putting a flashlight in your mouth is not ideal but any reasonable person will make informed decisions as to the risk and do what is needed to get a job done. But lets face it "Getting the Job Done" is not a priority for many in today's society and hence we question what was a normal thing to do into a full on "Risk Assessment"

Actually this is a great thread and it is interesting to see some folks rationale for not using a flash light between ones teeth. However, as a UK paramedic I specifically carry a Surefire G2z so that I CAN carry it in between my teeth when needed with a minimal risk of chipping a tooth.

Unfortunately there are times when speed is of the essence and there is no time to put on a headlamp or to find a convenient place to put a light while you try and find a vein or carry out an assessment. I work solo so the luxury of a partner to hold things or carry stuff is not an option. I have equipped the G2z with a Malkoff M60L (brilliant piece of kit by the way) and it regularly gets washed in alcohol gels or other disinfectants. I'm sure over the years I've digested lots of things that would make you guys cringe but my immune system is fully functional and besides the alimentary system is pretty good at looking after itself...lol! As someone else said you make decisions based on a risk assessment and if you were dealing with a situation which meant cross contamination with something particularly unpleasant you adapt your actions accordingly. That said there is no way I'd put an alloy light in my mouth but each to their own I guess.:twothumbs

I'm having my Lummi Wee 100lm as my EDC and i bite it almost every day! 😀

the groove at the tailcap makes it so much easier, and since the Wee is so small, its practically weightless in my mouth! 😀

Yesterday I had on my H50 on my head and my LD01 in my mouth at times. In a tight access area wire bundles, ducts, etc sometimes blocked the headlight. At least I had eyes on what I was working. Working through small access holes, at times it's all by feel. Maybe they will come out with an x-ray led?

Shrink-tubes will also do the trick, easy to fit and slim profile. Just don't get the glued version if you want it off sometime:nana:

I used a mini mag with a piece of sealant type shrink on it for many years. It is thicker for teeth cushion and daesn't slip off after a month or so like the thin shrink. It's still around here someplace.

Nah, I'm pretty sure they are lead-free, so I'm not going to waste the money on a lead test kit. That being said, if I come across one that I could borrow, I might give it a shot just for the heck of it.

The devil may care about a germ on a flashlight, but I can't be bothered to give it a second thought.

I understand the utility of a headlamp, but don't have the ability to predict when I'll need hands free lighting. The sheer convenience of popping a small led light in your mouth wins hands down in my book.

Good to know I'm not the only one out there.

+1

I carry the Quark AA regular UI in the belt holster.
Yes I can clip it to a visor or cap, but never wear those.

Solution: I keep the black rubber Quark Finger Grip Accessory on the rear tail switch. It goes into the holster just fine (tail up).
It is a perfect tooth cushion for my front teeth when the need arises!! {You can bite the covered switch, or the rubber loop meant for the finger, but the later will make for a bouncy beam}
It also serves nicely for a secure hand grip as intended.

I will probably buy the Quark Prizm as well, but I will not have it and the headband handy unless I'm planning on hands free use like night time metal detecting or some planned project.

So you Quark users out there, pull that finger grip thing out of the packing box, and keep it on your light. Your teeth will thank you later. 😀

When working just about any tool might end up in my mouth, I've been known to hold screws, drill bits, screwdrivers, wrenches, lights, small hardware.

Tried to mouth a drill, but their too dang heavy.

18v or 36v? :sick2:

I'm with you, I do it with my small lights but metal SUCKS!

I even bought a Nitrolon Surefire just for that but I think it is too big

I think I'd stripped wire with mine several hundred times before I got my first pair of pliers around age 16.
Now 31 years later I have dozens of great pliers, even a couple auto-strippers, and almost no teeth.

I've used minimags and single AA's in the mouth. The minimags were too heavy for me to use for very long; the single AA's were ok.

Recently I bought a single AAA light, TANK007 TK-703, which is the best "mouth light" so far.
