Off to DR in a few weeks, but which torches / battery types to take ?

How well lit up is the island at night ?

How prevalent are power cuts ?

We are staying on a hotel gated complex, is it overkill to take 120+ lumens torches ?

We are flying from UK, I don't think that there is a problem with CR123's in either hand or hold baggage.

And Lithium AA's ?

Any experiences & advice welcome.

When we were there last year I only brought 1x 1aa light (yes it's a shame). I picked AA since it will be easily replaced if I lost my batts. The resort I stayed was fairly lit at night with several area lights and huge spotlight for the bbq area. But after about 3am or so they cut off all the lights and it's pitch black! No power outtage from where I stayed. Might be worthwhile to check your hotel name in tripadvisor.com to see any other user review/feedback.

This year we will be going somewhere else and now that I have about 3x more lights I have NO clue which one to bring, so I'll be in the same boat as you are in a few weeks hehe.

Thanks, that's exactly the sort of reply I'm looking for, keep 'em coming.

When I went I only brought a 1AA dexlight and a Fenix E0. Never really needed more light than that at the resort where I stayed.
When I travel I tend to bring lights I am not afraid to loose.

Well, I'm not traveling unfortunately.. Don't have the spare cash.

But if I were you, I would take a mini multi-level light or two as your main EDC lights.
I just got an Akoray k-106 for these sorts of situations.
That way, I would have a choice to use a LOT of light or just a little bit of light(for maximum runtime), or anywhere in between. It also takes both lithium as well as regular AA's.

That one is cheap at DX for ~$21 and it's fully programmable. I wouldn't be terribly upset if it got lost.

It would be best to have more than one light though.. You know, the CPF way.
