First of all, I thought it would be much better to just add to this older thread rather than wasting space by starting a whole new one about this Dorcy light.:)

I just bought it recently, and I am completely blown away by its performance. It out throws my Dorcy 220 lumen rechargeable CREE (my previous best thrower) by a noticeable amount. The Dorcy 6 watt K2 Luxeon LED spotlight easily out throws both the Coleman 530 lumen and Husky 3 watt LED spotlights, and is the longest throwing LED light I have ever personally held.

The Dorcy LED spotlight's beam pattern is an extremely bright little perfect round hotspot, with an unusually bright corona around it. Its beam is needle thin and extremely laser like, and puts a bright spot of light on very distant objects. Tonight I shined it at some trees about 300 yards away, and it lit them up with ease! Its beam is blue and extends like a laser into the night sky.

Below are some pictures and beamshot I have taken of it:

It has an adjustable head, here it is with it tilted up:

Now the Dorcy K2 Luxeon 4C LED spotlight. Notice how it has a more intense spot:

Now the Dorcy K2 Luxeon LED spotlight, look at the scorching hotspot!

I am very happy that I bought the Dorcy K2 Luxeon LED spotlight, and it is my favorite LED light ever. Its beam is just amazing and I love how it throws so incredibly far.:twothumbs

BillSJCA,

still have it was hoping to swap the emitter with a p7 I grab it when I need throw it throws better then any other led light I have.by a large amount.the reflector plus a P7 would make for something very impressive.

I have a Dorcy K2 Terminator, one of the first lights I bought before I knew much about LEDS and a light I dont use much anymore. It is rated at 120 lumens and I'd say its accurate. Mine takes 6 AA's and claims 30's but starts dimming quite fast. It's a pretty good thrower though, although I don't find myself needing a thrower very often. Very tight hotspot. The tint is quite purplish though. Paid 25 bucks for it so not the end of the world.

I imagine this light is too throwy to be used as a work light?

Saw these at Target at 50% off. I might cave in.
Has anyone swapped the emitter to something brighter (XR-E R2 or XP-G)?

I picked one up at Target on clearance last weekend (more than 75% off). It actually produces a pretty decent spot.

I also wonder about the possibilities in upgrading. I disassembled as much as I easily could; the heavy rubber ring around the lens popped off to show the lens/reflector is retained in a groove, so the housing would need to come apart at least a little to free it. I can't see inside the head except right where the handle attaches. It looks like there is at least one screw post whose heads might be covered by the metal escutcheon plates on each side, but they did not want to come off under light persuasion.

There are four screws holding the base/battery compartment on; when removed you can see up into the handle area.

The handle appears to have four locations where screws hold it together; all are covered by the rubber features on the handle, which appear to be glued on. I didn't try to remove them.

There is a large resistor in the base and the switch is barely visible up in the handle.

Has anyone managed to get one of these apart without breaking it? Any recommended upgrade info would also be appreciated.
