I bought a Dorcy Metal Gear 1 watt 3 AAA today, and it had nasty rings in the spill.

I figured out how to remove the rings from the spill, which results in a much nicer beam.

The rings in the spill are caused by the part of the reflector which is nearest to the Luxeon. Basically, there's an area at the bottom of the stock reflector which is axially parallel to the LED, and because it's vacuum plated, it bounces off a ring at a weird angle which shows up in the spill.

So, the solution is simple.

You wrap a small dowel with 600 grit sandpaper, and pretend that you're widening the emitter hole in the reflector, and just make a few light passes around the hole. This will remove all the shiny plating, and remove the rings from the spill which will make it completely smooth.
