Greetings everyone!
Well, this is my first post...
I have several flashlights, and always have been somewhat of a "small" collector.
Today I added another to the pack which is Dorcy's 200 Lumen 6 Watt K2 Light.
This is my first Dorcy, and when I opened up the Fed Ex package I wasn't really expecting much as far as the supposedly 200 lumen rating.
Well, after putting in 3AAA Energizer Lithium batteries, shutting the blinds, and shining it at my dim day-lit wall...I have to say I'm impressed!
I tested it against two of my brightest flashlights. My Surefire E2L Outdoorsman (latest 60 lumen version), and my Surefire G2 (80 lumens).
It looks like the Dorcy is the brightest light I may now have. The center spot swallows my E2L, along with my G2 flashlight, so that 200 Lumen rating is not so far off.
I want to compare it to my Maglite 3D LED flashlight but do not have new batteries, so I'll have to wait. But from memory, it may rival it.
As far as that 3 hour run time printed on the package, well that is a bit off.
The first thing I did after testing it against the others was let it run straight.
After about the first hour, I noticed a little dip in output, but it still by far outshines both Surefires...especially at a 30 foot distance.
It is when we come out of the second hour (2 hrs 10 mins) that the lumen output drastically reduces. It still manages to stay above 100 lumens or so, judging by eye, by this time, but after 3 hours the Surefires now start to consume the Dorcy's center spot.
So, with that said...unofficially, you will get a good hour of light, along with a second hour of decent light. After that, change the batteries!
And once again, this test was using Lithiums, not the Alkalines the light came with.
Overall this Dorcy light is ok, I think it is worth the $47 price tag. It feels good in hand, and is not uncomfortable or heavy. The light has a momentary tactical tail cap switch which is most convenient. For constant on, you just twist the tail cap. The same as you would with the G2 in fact.
As far as durability, it survived its first test down a flight of carpet-coated stairs, so it has what it takes from a waist-high fall; but I'm not sure how water resistant it is...Dorcy just states it is "humidity resistant" whatever that means. (the drop was not intentional btw, lol).
The only con about the light is the battery terminal. It feels cheap and may be prone to breaking. But is seems like the only way to fit 3AAA's into a flashlight of this size. Then again, 2 CR123's would fit, and probably last longer too.
Well, just thought I share this quick review with everyone since I have found this forum helpful in the past, and now feel the need to contribute back.
Anyway, can't wait for it to get dark so that I could see how it really looks/performs...and at a distance!
I'll post back with the 3D Maglite LED comparison test soon!
