Greetings everyone!

Well, this is my first post...

I have several flashlights, and always have been somewhat of a "small" collector.

Today I added another to the pack which is Dorcy's 200 Lumen 6 Watt K2 Light.

This is my first Dorcy, and when I opened up the Fed Ex package I wasn't really expecting much as far as the supposedly 200 lumen rating.

Well, after putting in 3AAA Energizer Lithium batteries, shutting the blinds, and shining it at my dim day-lit wall...I have to say I'm impressed!

I tested it against two of my brightest flashlights. My Surefire E2L Outdoorsman (latest 60 lumen version), and my Surefire G2 (80 lumens).

It looks like the Dorcy is the brightest light I may now have. The center spot swallows my E2L, along with my G2 flashlight, so that 200 Lumen rating is not so far off.

I want to compare it to my Maglite 3D LED flashlight but do not have new batteries, so I'll have to wait. But from memory, it may rival it.

As far as that 3 hour run time printed on the package, well that is a bit off.

The first thing I did after testing it against the others was let it run straight.

After about the first hour, I noticed a little dip in output, but it still by far outshines both Surefires...especially at a 30 foot distance.

It is when we come out of the second hour (2 hrs 10 mins) that the lumen output drastically reduces. It still manages to stay above 100 lumens or so, judging by eye, by this time, but after 3 hours the Surefires now start to consume the Dorcy's center spot.

So, with that said...unofficially, you will get a good hour of light, along with a second hour of decent light. After that, change the batteries!

And once again, this test was using Lithiums, not the Alkalines the light came with.

Overall this Dorcy light is ok, I think it is worth the $47 price tag. It feels good in hand, and is not uncomfortable or heavy. The light has a momentary tactical tail cap switch which is most convenient. For constant on, you just twist the tail cap. The same as you would with the G2 in fact.

As far as durability, it survived its first test down a flight of carpet-coated stairs, so it has what it takes from a waist-high fall; but I'm not sure how water resistant it is...Dorcy just states it is "humidity resistant" whatever that means. (the drop was not intentional btw, lol).

The only con about the light is the battery terminal. It feels cheap and may be prone to breaking. But is seems like the only way to fit 3AAA's into a flashlight of this size. Then again, 2 CR123's would fit, and probably last longer too.

Well, just thought I share this quick review with everyone since I have found this forum helpful in the past, and now feel the need to contribute back.

Anyway, can't wait for it to get dark so that I could see how it really looks/performs...and at a distance!

I'll post back with the 3D Maglite LED comparison test soon!

Terrific first post and welcome to CPF. A photo of your new light would be outstanding.

Some of my favorite lights are Dorcys.

Dorcy has an online store, Dorcydirect.com, where you can buy alot of their product line including replacement parts. The replacement battery carrier is $1 (after the discount and shipped priority mail your cost is, a hard to believe, $0.85).

The discount code is "newyear" for 15% off. Of my last 4 purchases from Dorcydirect I've gotten free shipping on all of them.

Here is a link to your carrier: http://www.dorcydirect.com/p-250-41-4276-battery-holder-cartridge.aspx

Thanks for the welcome and the info, Oregon!

The light looks just like the 120 and 160 versions, only with a brighter LED.

Once I figure out how to upload photos I'll post a few along with some beam shot comparisons next to the Mag 3D LED.

I think I may be locked at the moment to upload anything. I'm still trying to upload an Avatar.

I hope you guys check back with this post as I've been wanting to talk Dorcy a bit. I have no surefires and that brand seems to be rampant on this site. Surefire's are very expensive in my part of the world for instance the 6P led version is $675 my money or around $125US give or take a couple of dollars.

I also bought the Dorcy 200 lumen a few days ago, about $65US, but it was listed as a Cree emitter (much to my liking) but it had a twisty cap I prefer a clicky. This was the 3 AAA version as are the Dorcy 60 lumen that I own, the 160 lumen and a 45 lumen. I also have a Dorcy Metal Gear 1 Watt (45 lumens by comparison with the other 45 lumen) and a 2 AA 45 Lumen (nice light). And to round it off a 1 AAA that I bought in Miami a few years ago. A very faithful light. I think the Dorcy's are pretty decent and as they are not expected to see much hard use they may well last a few years, unless the clickies go or the emitters.

Hope you guys check back.

I have a couple Dorcy's but for $35 plus $5 shipping you can purchase the Lumaforce Lf1 and it is supposedly 300 lumens at the emitter. I sent the 200 Lumen Dorcy back unopened since it was approx the same money. The only thing I don't like about the LumaForce is that is ships unassembled (untested ?) with batteries loose in the padded mailer. One hell of a flashlight for the money however.

The Lumaforce Lf1 is the brightest light I own next to a Jetbeam M1X that I am getting rid of. A 6P style light with an R2 is all I need for walks, bumps in the nights, etc. I plan on ordering a Solarforce L2 off ebay for $25 in the very near future. Appears to be exact same light. The only thing lacking on these style lights is a tail cap switch assembly that allows standing on end. I am sure an after mkt one is available. Solarforce also makes a 2 AA 6P style light but not sure you would get same lumens out at that low voltage.
