Driver help

Think I've put this in the right forum.

Does this driver http://www.dealextreme.com/p/5-mode-1000ma-7135-circuit-board-for-cree-and-ssc-emitters-6190 need to be hestsinked?

i'm pretty sure it depends on how much voltage you put into it relative to how much it is putting out for the led. in general it will draw 1000mA and any 'extra' voltage will be burned off as heat. so if you input 4.5 volts and the led only uses 3.5 volts then it should be burning off 1 watt as heat.

at lest, that is my understanding on drivers useing the 7135 based on reading this page

Think I understand. I'll heat sink it anyway. Couple of blobs of arctic silver

I'd do a thread about the torch I'm building but I think there's already enough aspherical maglite threads
