- for submission in the Reviews forum -

I got my SCOLOs a few weeks ago and just now got around to taking some pictures of the setup. Sorry this isn't a full review but these are the only CREE/Q5 lights I have and my first and only bike light so I don't have much reference to compare them to. I will say this, I really like them. They provide ample lighting for total darkness riding although I would use them in conjunction with a helmet light. The 8.8Ah battery really lasts and isn't that big either which is great.

For mounting, I have both lights on a Topeak barXtender and I have the battery stored in the mesh pocket of a Topeak small handlebar bag. Theres still plenty of space in the handlebar bag for my wallet, phone and keys which is what I use it for normally.

*****runtime*****

Good stuff Shaocaholica
i believe the bicycle forum is the correct place for any scolo reviews/impressions
i have recently received mine and plan to post some sort of review and runtime in this post......

Runtime will depend on your cell capacity....
small cells may have worse voltage sag!!

5 cell ni-cad @ 4 amp/hour capacity ....

Do they ship that battery pack now? I was refraining from the Scolo because I'm in the US and I read that they don't ship the battery pack and I would want to buy something that comes with a pack.

Nice pictures!

Just a couple of questions: How sturdy are the mounts? Do they move around?

The mounts are OK. The the worst I've seen, not the best but for the price they are nice. I think the Fenix-Store mounts look much better but are also much more expensive.

They haven't shifted at all from my casual riding but I can shift them by hand pretty easily without loosening the screws.

I think they had to jump through some hoops to get mine shipped. I think I had to go with EMS shipping instead of the regular shipping although they might not be shipping them to the US anymore because of how difficult it is.

I was almost ready to buy a Dinotte 200 headlamp when I looked at CPF and discovered the Scolo.

Does anyone know how these actually compare to a dinotte 200 headlight? I'm under the impression that both the Scolo and Dinotte are rated ~200 lumens, but I'm wondering how they actually look, in a beamshot comparison, for example.

I've noticed that many led flashlights have a highly focused beam, which in my experience is too narrow for bike use. Sorta like trying to ride by the light of a laser beam - kinda useless. In the Scolo beamshots posted previously in this thread, they look pretty focused with a small amount of peripheral light spill.

I've thought of just building a diy bike light with ~600lumen. Is a lens even necessary if you want a wider 15-25 degree illumination?

Thanks in advance for any useful info.

Yes, definitely need optics. Also, you'll want one optic at about 8 degrees so you can see further ahead- plain LED's don't really give much light beyond 15M, which is dangerous while cycling.

Looking Cool!!:twothumbs

I like the dual beams, I think I might have to add another now:ohgeez::grin2:

What is that bag carrier hanging off your seat post?
Who makes it, how much, and where can I get one?

Could you PM me a few close-ups of it? Does it hold a lot?

While I have purchased a set of Scolo's to try out (price is good even tho it doesn't come equipped with a battery), I would say that the Dinotte's would be a better choice if you're doing a lot riding. My buddy had the 200L, then upgraded to the 600L and I managed to check it out. The quality of the light, the UI and the choice of configuring your battery. IMHO, Dinotte's is probably one of the top 3 or even 2 production LED lights out there right now... The Lupines might be better but they cost a fortune.

I would agree with your and Dom's comments on this one. From the beamshots, the output looks pretty good but it looks like they are using a reflector which is not quite SMO or OP and the result is a concentrated beam, although there is a noticable sidespill just ahead of the front tire.

The output from the min-T that I got from Dom is more diffused (25 degree optic) and would be perfect for single-track - just waiting for the trails to dry off to put it through the test! I will still test out the Scolos to see how useful they are on the trails but it will be secondary lighting or to loan to friends.

The bag and carrier are both Topeak. Doesn't hold that much but thats the sacrifice you make for the size. Enough for my wallet, smartphone, keys, and the SCOLO battery pack.

Hey guys,
today i got the Scolo Turbo with wider lense. Will test ride tonight and compare to my AYUP light sets. From what i can see the turbo scolo gives you great useable wide beam and still has a projection point in the centre.

Hi TMC 2, Have you had the chance to compare beam shots of Scolo turbo and Ay-up. please post images:thumbsup:
