[Last minute thought...]

+1 on the Duracell mobile charger, I just got one and it's a no-brainer to operate. From far more experienced users & reviewers on CPF, it seems to have very reliable charge termination. Check Target, they are on sale for like ~$20 and include 4 AA Duraloops, a great deal.

There are a few threads here on the charger for more info, one is very current...
Although I'm currently SET as far as chargers are concerned, I need a 'Single Channel / Cell' SMART Charger for my Dad (as I plan to buy him a 1 AAA 'Personal Sound Amplifier / Hearing Aid'. I took him to an ENT MD and he's been tested as severely DEAF in one ear, but, at 93, he isn't that anxious to spend ~$3000-4000 for a pair of digital hearing aids.). I visited 2 local Targets this past Saturday (09/19) in the hopes of getting one for the ~50% discount they were offering on many of the other Duracell products BUT I didn't even see an empty position for the 'Duracell Mobile Charger CEF23'. It doesn't even appear on Target.Com, so...
  • Has anyone purchased one from a Target B&M recently?
    .
  • If so, what was the DPCI? (On your receipt, should begin with '057-06-xxxx')
Today, Monday 09/21/09 is the LAST day for the *SALE*. So, *IF* I have a DPCI, I can at least drive over and get a raincheck.

Thanks! :)

P.S. I bought a Duracell Mini Charger CEF20 @ $6.95 'just-in-case'. ;) I'm hoping that it terminates as well as the 'Low Current / aka <0.5C' Sanyo MQN06.

P.P.S. Yes, I'm aware of the fishx65 thread in the CPF Marketplace.

Might help if people knew what area you lived...

I haven't seen them at target in a while, but Kroger has them on sale for $9.99 with two duraloops.

Since it appears that I'm going to be a REGULAR visitor here, I just updated a few items in my User Profile.

I don't recall ever seeing a Kroger's around here, but I'll certainly do a SEARCH.

Thanks! :)

I have not seen the Duracell Mobile Charger in Target for a long time. It seems it was too expensive for the buying public. Target only seems to have the cheapest timed chargers on the shelves now.

I saw two at a Walmart the other day. These had the car adapter and 4 batteries. Price was $24.99. I'm pretty sure Duracell is no longer offering this charger.

Bummer, looks like it is being replaced by the "Gomobile" charger, which charges batteries in one hour, :thumbsdow, not what I want.

BTW, my $9.99 Mobile charger from Kroger did not have LSD batteries, just 2 regular 2000 mAh AA's.

Look more carefully at the package. It almost surely says "precharged" on it.

Didn't see any at my local Kroger. There is an Energizer charger called simple charger. This is an 8 hour smart charger that works with aaa/aa/9v batteries and can charge 1 to 4 batteries. I should have bought this one instead of their compact charger.

Toy R us sells the simple Mobile charger ( without the car thing) for $19.99.

It is not a smart charger; it is a dumb timed charger that will damage your batteries. The Compact Charger is a smart charger, however it has to charge batteries in pairs which is not ideal. If the charge state of batteries is mismatched it will tend to overcharge one or undercharge the other. (Note: previous incorrect statement about charger damaging batteries corrected.)

You should not normally buy any Energizer charger. (Almost) none of them are to be recommended and there are better choices out there.

This charger has 4 LEDs, one for each slot. I always assume that if a charger can charger 1 battery, or 2, or 3, or 4 as in the case of this charger then it is a smart charger. Also, if it can charge a full battery quickly then it is a smart charger. A timer-based charger, I imagine, will keep charging until the time is reached regardless of the charge status of the battery. I can't verify with this particular charger because I don't have one.

How does the compact charger wreck batteries? It takes about as long as the MQN05 to charge. It charges a fresh battery in about 10 minutes. That tells me it's a smart charger, not a timer-based charger.

I think what has happened is a few of the earlier Energizer charger were bad and the information was posted and it just circulated around and around until people lost track of what the original bad chargers were. And suddenly anything made by Energizer is bad.

The same thing happens with flashlight recommendations. Every time someone asks for a cheap, single aaa light recommendation, the Fenix E01 gets the most recommendations. I bet half the people who recommend this light don't even own it. But they recommend it because they have seen it recommended so many times that the information is ingrained in their brains.

Next time I suggest reading the specification sheet instead...

You're right; I misread the manual and I have corrected the post above. Sorry for any confusion caused.

The Simple Charger is a timed charger however, as confirmed by the manual linked to by Marduke.

D'ho! :ohgeez: That's EXACTLY what I was looking for and not finding. Guess where they put their price sticker? Should have cut the clampack open before jumping to any conclusions. I stand corrected, all versions of the Mobile Charger package that I have seen come with some combination of PRE-CHARGED LSD batteries.
