I recently opened 3- 4packs of these batteries I had in storage and am trying to match 8 of them up out of the 12 of them. I would like to use them in a new fenix tk41 possibly. is there a certain capacity percentage variable i should go by. Like less than 5 %? or 10% difference in capacities? Here are the results after like around 2 refresh and analyze cycles at 1 amp charge and .5 amp discharge from my maha c9000.
1848, 1850, 1852, 1853, 1856, 1861, 1861, 1864, 1867, 1868, 1876 , 1878.
I think the year of mfg date on the packages are all 2007. would 8 of those be ok to use? i also have a maha 808 charger too.

On 8 of those cells the date code on the cells are 7 I08- SZ AND THE OTHER 4 ARE 7 H31- SM . or is it good enough that they are within around 1 % similar capacity ? Or should i order a new 8 pack of the new eneloops when i order a tk41 from amazon to use with the tk41 and use the duraloops for back up use ( 2nd set) ?

Others may feel different but there is not enough variation between those cells to concern me. I'm using 8 Imedions (wouldn't buy them again) in my TK40 and they vary a lot more than your cells.

These cells are pretty close. You should not have anything to worry about. They look fine. Are the cells the white top or black top Duracells?
 
Yes. The better ones from Japan. :thumbsup: You will be fine. I just opened up a package of 4 pre-charged LSD from 2009 myself.

Hello Chewy78,

There are a few of steps to matching cells for use in a battery.

The first thing is to check capacity. You have done that. You are looking for the difference in capacity between the best and worst cell to be in the 2 - 5% range. Obviously 2% is better.

The next thing to check is the mid point voltage of each cell. You hope that each cell has the same mid point voltage. To check mid point voltage select a discharge rate that will discharge the cell in about 2 hours. Set a timer for 1 hour and check and record the voltage of the cell at the 1 hour mark.

The next thing to check for is to look for internal damage. Internal damage will show up as a higher than usual self discharge rate. It can also show up as chemical stains indicating the cell has vented.

The final thing to check for is external damage.

At the end of this process you end up with a set of cells that will work well together when put together as a battery.

or i could group them according to date codes since the capacity spread was around 1% -1.5% i think. 18-25 mah for all 12 cells? 8 cells had one date code and the other 4 cells with a different one.
