<DX-error>WF-600 Q2 Cree, how do you know if you got the right light?

I just received my first shipment from DX ever(surprisingly fast, 2weeks to Sweden from order date), and I'm a bit puzzled about the WF-600 Q2 I received. I ordered the "18650 only"-version cause I heard that is the brightest one, and I don't use primaries anyway or 2xRCR123 anyway. And as far as I know, the only Q2-version of WF-600 that DX sells, is that one. But I received a light that has the print "Multi-Power 3.6V-9V". I'm thinking about demanding a replacement, but wondering if this is in fact a wrongly branded "only 18650"-light, since they don't have the Multi-Power for sale. Anybody that knows how I can confirm this? Or should I just ask for a replacement?
Thanks.

DX often ships the wrong product, and I once ordered three of the Q2 lights and got three of the P4 multipower lights. I think you have a P4 light, and inspecting the wires on the CREE emitter probably won't resolve the matter. Brightness for these lights is Q2(18650) > P4(18650) > P4(3.7-9V). Your light is two grades lower than what you paid for. I never got around to asking for replacements, but I think this would be a reasonable approach.

It actually says Q2 on the side, but that puzzles me even more, since they haven't listed any Multi-power WF-600 Q2 on their site. Do they have both version of the Q2, but only list one, and then randomly send out whatever they got? Guess I'll ask for a replacement, but it's really annoying to have to pack and send the light back and then wait a couple of weeks for getting what I ordered in the first place. Still, the prices are unbeatable, and the fit and finish of the light I got, is really good.

If you tell them that you are unwilling to send the light back/have proof that they sent the wrong product, then might send you a replacement without you having to send them the wrong product.

I know the earlier ones were multi-voltage, maybe you got an earlier one.

That would be awfully nice of them if they did, but a waste since I have no intention on using this if I get the one I really want. And not a single friend I could give it to cause of the "exotic" batteries.
Hey, tell you what. Since we seem to be in a similar situation (a big interest in lights but not deep enough pockets to spoil ourselves...) and you're really helpfull around the forum, if your interested, I'll send you this one if I can keep it! :)

That would be great but shipping from Sweden to the US is a bit costly.

If they do send you a replacement, I'd recommend keeping the one you have now for a mod.

DX was able to send me replacement 18650 batteries when I told them one of the pair I got was not working(it is now an unprotected battery in a light that is missing).

Good Luck!

No problems, mate. Last time I checked it wasnt that expencive to send something to the states(uninsured etc of course). Lately, people have been very generous to me, and it only feels nice to be able to "pay it forward" the little I can. If you still don't want it, I might donate it to one of Esthans tests, could be cool to see how much beating a DX-light can take.
I doubt that they'll let me keep it though.

That's sort of funny Lobo, because that's exactly what happened to me on my very first order from DX about 5 months ago. I sent mine back for a refund because it's not very bright with a single 18650.

You can measure the current at the tailcap to see which model you actually received. If you really got the 'multi-power' version, then you'll see about 550ma....but if you got the '18650 only' version, then you'll see about 1100ma at the tailcap (MUCH brighter).

i had the aurora wf-600 Q5 ordered on two separate occasions but had to be refunded today because it was back ordered.

i've decided on giving up with this light and going for the dereelight dbs for my thrower needs. :devil:

it's $80 more, but i'm going to sell my 5th gen surefire L1 to make up the difference.

@Yenster

Yes, I noticed, it's not very bright on 18650, allthough it still throws pretty far. Then I threw in some CR123 and WOW. And the 18650-version is supposed to be even brighter! I have applied for a refund now, hope I'll get an answere tomorrow.

@MstrHnky
Trust me, if I had the dough, I have would got an DBS. :)
I love the idea of buying a very high quality housing once, and then just buy pills to upgrade it whenever you feel for it.

I wish you luck with getting the correct one.

I can understand the good people at DX getting confused over all those models sometimes, heck I have a hard time keeping them apart myself as there are so many variants of each light....

If you're looking for a nice thrower you could also get the wf-800 aurora q5. Got that one about 2 weeks ago and it works fine for me. Since it draws about 4 watts I doubt a single Q5 could be that much brighter without being seriously overdriven. Quality looks good to me, too. Maybe worth a try.

Now we just need to make DX sell reflectors separately... in case "someone" accidentally tries to wipe theirs clean...:whistle:
