DX Simply Cree - DOA - need help

I hate to just return something after waiting for it for 2 weeks. My DX Simply Cree:

came in today DOA.

Any suggestion on what I can do to save it?

The light would on occasions turn on, for half a second, and turn off depending on how I hold it or if I shake it.

I tried cleaning the contacts but nothing seems to work.

Never mind ... it started working after I kept on cleaning it, shaking it and banging it against my palm. It's a cree but the light sucks. Hmmm, what's a cool way to play with a light you are not afraid to lose or damage?

I got mine today, and it works. I pulled mine apart and lubed it and put an o-ring on the lens. There not much to really check from what I can see. If you have a multimeter check the switch, they seem to be a common failure point. Or just short the - end of the battery to the body. Maybe stretch the sprin in the bottom. The LED has 2 wires soldered to it to the board. The insulated wire seems to have slack, so lift on that side.

The reflector is supposed to be plastic.

How do I make a jello lamp?

make jello in a big metal bowl and submerge all but the tailswitch while the jello hardens.

OK, I took it apart and cleaned all metal contacts. Now the light works just fine. Dim though.
