Speaking of unround beams I was less than impressed with my 9P beam it's anything but round. Seems Surefire isn't being as careful with bulb selection as they used to be. On the other hand the P91 bulb is perfectly round and has a tighter beam than my P90 bulb. Though if the beam on the P90 was round instead of a very long oblong shape it might be similar.
Maybe the new design or makers of the E1/E2 bulbs are able to do better tolerences. In which case maybe we can hope they will make all thier bulbs and once again all surefires can have a perfect round bright beam.
Doug, how bad is your beam? Did you happen to drop the light? I know I dropped my 3P awhile ago from about 3' on carpeted floor and that had just a perfect beam, after being dropped it looked like a wide focused maglight. Upon inspection the bulb itself didn't move, the filament in the bulb had bent over to one side of the bulb inside. Needless to say it was time for a new bulb.
Maybe it got tossed around before or in transit ya never know.
