I only got it last week- and the bulb is showing very noticeable signs of blackening already- look...

It`s hardly had any use- half an hour perhaps- maybe 45 minutes tops, I`ve been playing with it a fair bit but the longest it`s been on for at one time was about 5 minutes. The supplied batteries read about 2.9 volts on my analogue AVO (after a few seconds shining and few seconds rest) so they`re not gone yet. But it`s definately blackening. The beam has lost its pure whiteness and now looks a bit tired, almost on par with a brand new 3D Mag now- and that`s worrying cos it blew it away when I first fired it up last thursday evening.

So...has anyone else experienced this after only a short time of casual use? My 9Z has had over an hour of burning in a similar pattern- short bursts and about 5 mins maximum on at once- and it`s still crystal clear and perfect, on its second fill of batteries.

So what`s up? Did I get a duff one?

An aside question if I may- how is the E2`s bezel constructed? Is it solid aluminum with the angled sides of the reflector as part of it- and just chromed/whatever- or is it hollow behind the reflector? I want to do an "ultimate LED mod" on it- one LED is not enough compared to the E2`s normal (non-blackened) bulb. I plan to convert it by obtaining a spare bezel, removing lens and reflector and cramming as many white LEDs in there as I can (it`s too small for a Luxeon but I reckon I`d get 12x 5mm ones in), then putting the clear lens back on. Then I could simply swap bezels over depending on whether I want bright and narrower, or longer run time and wider. Is this feasable, or should I give up- bear in mind that I have no access to metalworking stuff like a lathe here. Maybe when I go back to Uni in October there will be something I could use, but I can`t really wait that long....

...alternatively, any plans from those lot at Laser Products for an E2 LED bezel along the lines of my idea? Be nice, it would....

Hi Chris

Doesn't look to healthy to me. I am on my third set of batteries. The first set I went through in 3 weeks, minimum on time.
The second set by accident courtesy of my 5 year old son (found dead under the desk after "misplacing" for a week)

Bulbs on both E1 and E2 are clear as a bell so I think you got a baddie

Chris, got my E2 in April, on my second set of batteries, just checked my bulb after looking at your picture, it is clear, not smoky.

Joe

It looks like you definitely have a bad lamp. I've gone through 9 sets of batteries in one E2, 5 sets in another and close to a dozen sets in my E1's (using scrap batteries- post M6/M2/E2 etc) and all 4 lamps are completely clear.

I've lost count how many sets of batteries I've put through my E2. Must be over a dozen by now.

One of the N2 lamps I used for testing the M3T got some yellowing deposits at the base of the bulb. This does not effect the output though. I put it down to running the batteries to dead far too often. I must have put the best part of 30-40 sets of batteries though the M3T, and I consider the N2 to have had a good life "burning the candle at both ends"

However, I believe your MN03 must have a leak that could have been caused by a jolt etc. on transit etc. Contact your Dealer, and if that fails, contact SureFire.

I hope you get it sorted. Of course, if you'd have got a spare, it'd never have happened (but that's no help now, sorry)

Al

Sorry to hear about the lamp failing Chris, guess SF customer service will help out there.

I am on my fourth set of batteries for my GM-E2 (undergoing modifications right now, so I feel a bit naked these days

)

I use it from short burst using the push-switch and as long as 40 minutes using the constant-on. And yes, it sure was a tad shall I saw WARM.

My bulb looks fine, and have a backup. You look like you got yerself a defective one.
