Hi Everyone,

Up for review is the Eagletac P20A2 RGB Kit. Eagletac also included a tailstanding cap and an OP reflector.

Here are some of the specs from flashlightsNgear.com

  • Maximum 230 lumen / 60lumen / 5lumen
  • 2XAA
  • Runtime 1.5 hrs / 13hrs / 180+ hr
  • Three levels of output activated by twisting the Head/Bezel
  • CREE XR-E Premium R2 emitter in WD tint
  • Crenulated Stainless Steel Bezel
  • Syntax ultra-clear hardened/glass lens with AR coating
  • Mil-Spec Hard Anodized (Type III)
  • Tactical Forward click tail-cap, easily activated with gloves

A bit of background:
same backkground as the P20C2, as they were both intro'd at the same time.
I surprisingly made a discovery when browsing flashlightsngear.com, 2 new, "P" series models.. sweet! The thread can be found here. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=237994
Not much other info elsewhere, though the light has been for sale for a bit. I think this is the shortest copy I've ever written for background info.

here is the light:

eagletac has nice packaging, as usual

I changed my acessories view because it is much easier to take pictures like this.

Impressions
This light is very similar to the P20C2, though slightly longer due to the battery choice.. 2AA. Eagletac just extended and narrowed the tube... no knurling on that section. Though it may look a tad bit strange, it is still easy to grip and use. Due to it's larger form factor, though, it's a bit harder to EDC.. better off going in your backpack or something of the sort.

The eagletac P20A2 uses ordinary, easy to obtain batteries.... what other easy way is there to introduce a budding flashaholic to high quality lights? the output is slightly lower than that of the CR123A version... wise decision of eagletac as you get a longer runtime.. output difference isn't too much, either. The reflector seems identical to the P20C2. As for the UI.. it is the same as the T20 and P20 series.. its shortcoming being it's long range of time to go to strobe mode.

This Eagletac is also one of the "RGB" kit type of series, including a bunch of accessories, and in its stock kit, a diffuser.. useful!

For someone who wants to get into flashlights, but not ready for li-ion, or, for the flashaholic not interested in the hassle of lithium batteries, this is a almost perfect solution.

I can't imagine what the output/time graph looks like on turbo with alkaline batteries.

AFAIK that is a revision/version number...
Like when they did some fixes to the reverse polarity protection coming loose, or lens cracking concerns when dropped - at beginning of year with version ET687 - they came out with new version ET689 with the fixes built in so you know wether your light needed the updates or not... pretty cool actually.
But, like a software update - it would be nice to know what each version fixed vs previous one so you would know wether you need to turn it in for the updated parts or not.
Send [email protected] a note if you have a ET version older than ET689 and what model light - if there is a significant update I am sure they will either send you the updated parts, or have you send light in for the updated parts if it is a concern.

What does it means the ET690 designed in the body tube ?

Another great review Craig, up to this point the P20A2 is the brightest 2AA light Ive seen (personally), Eagletac has really outdone their selves on this one. The strobe feature is well liked by most 99% (especially LEO) its now my favorite AA light by far, thanks again for the great review :twothumbs

I have the version with a neutral white Q4(?) instead of the cool white R2. Not quite as bright, better tint IMO for in the woods, where I use it the most. Awesome light. Just wish the strobe was harder to trigger (Or, better yet, absent.) Having the low mode as one of the initial levels would have been nice too, but that's not a huge issue. I'm not sure why it doesn't use XP-E leds either... but nice construction and lots of light.

I got a P100A2 at the same time, have barely touched it in favor of the P20.

I like head-down pocket clip: "All-new pocket clip EagleTac P20A2 provides the all-new stainless steel pocket clip in black coated color. The P20A2 is designed to be securily held "head-down" in your holster or pocket for better protection and quicker light withdrawal." Now I'm looking to buy that or the Quark AA2.

The P20A2 with an XP-G R4 would be great. The larger head and reflector would really help with the larger die so the light can have more throw.

P20A2 VS Quark 2AA VS Fenix L20 all of them with XP-G R4 bins, now that is something to wait for. Thanks for the review, it is now a three-way battle and the larger head might put it over the top.

I agree 100%. I've been needing to buy some more lights for a couple of months, but have decided to wait for EagleTac to phase in the XP-G R4 emitters. I love their "table top" flat regulation in the T100C2 w/ the XP-E.

A P20A2 with the XP-G & 275 +/- OTF lumens will absolutely KILL the AA^2 market. And if they ever figure out how to center the emitters properly, it will will really get ugly.

In the meantime I'm not buying another light unless it's an XP-G w/ flat regulation. The days of having to put up with those butt ugly XR-E rings have come to an end.

Thanks Craig for the review. Now I am torn between the P20A2 and the Quark AA2 to replace my worn out and tired Fenix L2DCE and my EDC.

I got my P20A2 MkII a few weeks ago. My favorite light so far. Great review.
