I've found it's difficult to operate my AA Mini Maglite with gloves, but very easy to work my Princetontec 20.

What has your experience been with the flashlights you carry? Do you carry different lights depending on the season?

Surefires and Streamlight's ProPolymerare very easy to use with gloves on. The big switch on the back works fine with gloves, probably the easiest. The Scopion switch is easy to use in momentary mode, but is difficult to push all the way in for constant on when wearing thick gloves. The Stinger/PolyStinger/SuperStinger are also difficult with thick gloves because the switches are so small. Streamlight's SL20X, SL20XP, SL35X have big switches that are easy to use. Because of the size of the head, the Pelican lights are pretty easy to twist on, even with mittens. Maglites are easy to use with thin gloves, harder with thick gloves but still not too bad.

Criag,

I like a Pelican Steathlight. It has a nice horizontal toggle lever that you swing from one side to the other (in about a 90 degree arc) to turn the light on or off.

It uses 4 AA batteries, which gives you lots of options, including lithium for cold weather or long term storage and NiMH batteries for total economy. It even has a little "plug"on the lanyard that you can use to "lock" the switch in either position.

And a very bright well focused beam. A set of Alkaline batteries lasts about 5-6 hours, in my experience. Available in some very "bright" Yellow and Orange colors, Blue or good old Black. Waterproof, and safe to turn on in explosive environments.

My two cents... Thomas
