Are there any simple mods for the 2aa mag-lite, like boring out the reflector to fit a 5mm LED.

I so is there any simple mods for the mag-lite that are simple, I don't mean going to the store and buying one of those 3 led maglite things.

Oh yea, what is the BRIGHTEST bulb that will fit a 2aa maglite.

Notice I said FIT. (I'll bore out the reflector for bigger bulbs of course)

But no bulbs bigger then 10mm.

Ive asked this before... and your best luck is to just get another light. The 2aa LED maglites are about $10 or 15 if you want the cheap and easy way--or if you're interested, you could look into some of the nicer but more expensive high-power LED lights you see around here.

And the nite-ize 3 mini LED bulbs: crap. Don't waste your money.

I said that cause there horrible.

:p.

So where can I buy a high power leds like at least 50 lumens for the maglite 2aa?

I just really like the mag-lites design :whistle:

If I can't how would a 2.5 Lumen white led look in a maglite or a 1-2 Lumen green one?

So where can I buy high power leds to fit the mini maglite that are atleast 50 lumens, how would a 2.5 lumen white led or a 1-2 lumen green led look in a mag-lite and are there any LED flashlights that take aa/aaa/c/d and are atleast 90 Lumens?

Most 5mm LEDs are 3.6V Vf. Most 2AA batteries are 3V. Without enough voltage you get very dim light. There is 1 exception.
Instructions. You can get the LED here. Lambda has not sold the LED for about 4 years now.

Note the LED only works above 2.7V so with alkaline batteries you have to change batteries when they are only 10% used. If you use L91 lithium batteries the high voltage of the batteries when they are fresh might :poof: the LED. It is recommended to use lithium batteries in some other device for 5 minutes before using them in the minimag.
I would recommend getting the Boosted version of the SMJLED instead of this (see below).

Simple means drop ins. In order of increasing brightness:
Those 3 led maglite things;
1/2 watt maglite things
Boosted version of the SMJLED;
1 watt maglite things;
Cree based maglite things. led-replacement is cheaper for international shipping. Battery junction is cheaper for US shipping.

Buy a new 2AA flashlight.
New Mini MagLED multi-mode with Rebel LED At $21.99 it is no more costly than the more expensive drop ins;
Too many others to list here.

Nice post LEDninja, great info, all in one place. Another goodie for minimags that I find indispensable....Kroll Clikie.

I created this thread for a reason. Look at the drop-ins. Many of the higher power ones come with a reflector designed for the LED.

Also it's probably cheaper to buy a new light.

Many 2 AA lights can go over 100 lumen (as an example, the Fenix LD20 is probably around 150-160 lumen on turbo) and 1 AAA ones can hit 60 lumen.
