Eat your hearts out UK LIGHT CANNON and MCCULLOCH X990 !

Heck of a deal for $975. Think if we had a group buy we could get it down to $965? But it's on BO till 6/10.

Don't want to wait that long. TX

(although, I guess it's a good price compared to the MaxiBeam)

The part that I find almost unbelieveable is the 3.5hr runtime. Is that really possible in a handheld (abeit heavy) self contained light?

Graham,
I sent a message through their contact facility to ask for more details on that one. I don't think there's much chance that it's Lithium-Ion though ?

I thought it was unlikely too - $35 for the spare 'lithium ion' battery is pretty unlikely. Most lithium ion rechargeables of any reasonable capacity go for well over $50.
But then there must be something to it - I wouldn't think they'd go to the trouble of calling it lithium ion if it was just nimh..

But assuming that the plugpack shown is a typical size, it looks about the size of a 2D light..

I'll be interested to hear what reply you get, Jahn..

They initially claim it's a 6 *billion* CP searchlight...

I'm not impressed by the 6,000,000 CP since that figure is so easily manipulated. It's the 1,800 lumens for 3.5 hours that intrigues me.

Wouldn't that be great if it wre true. I suspect anything that rates 6,000,000,000 CP would melt any sensor you aimed it at.

Brightnorm:

Is there any indication as to what type of light this is? HID, Halogen,or what?

The X990 is around 3600-3800 lumans HID.

It would be interesting to see a comparison test of all these big guns.

If you do a search for 6,000,000 , another light comes up. Same CP, but more "Beast" looking. It's only $1,495. TX

Tom,

I don't know the type of lamp, but I had forgotten how bright the X990 is. NTL, I'm still very impressed by the 3.5hr run time of this light. That is extraordinary for an 1,800 L self contained handheld light.

3000+ Lumens?

Dont think so.... any of the lights... according to Paul Kim, the Beast uses the same Phillips D2s 35 HId bulb which specs at 3000+ lumens, but in actual usage is only 2000 lumens. Same for the McCulloch, Kwang Kang (Korean).

1800 - 2000 seems more acccurate.....

But as BN has said, 3 1/2 hours doesn't seem right... doing the math, that would require a 14+ amp capacity batttery.

Brightnorm, where do you get 1,800 lumen information on this light? I couldn't get much information on their page

Alan,

That figure is from the paper catalog lent to me by a sound technician.

"An incredible, highly focused 1,800-lumen lamp penetrates smoke and fog to illuminate objects 3/4 of a mile away."..etc.

Maybe someone called them on the lumen figure and they substituted cp. Possibly, marketing figured that 99.9% of potential customers were impressed by "6,000,000cp"

Mr Ted Bear, I was told that Mcculloch isn't using Philips D2S 35W HID lamp. They develop their own. The D2S 35W HID lamp used in x990 is rated 3200 lumens and 4300K. They planned to use its 6000K lamp but dropped the idea due to its lower 2,700 lumens rating.

Besides, the lamp is rated 3,000 life hours instead of 1,000 life hours.

I believe that the lumens rating is for the *lamp* and not for the flashlight itself. The design of the flashlight such as reflector, power source, lens and ballast .... etc. might affect its rating differently.

I heard that the parent company of Mcculloch invested heavily in HID development.

Hello all,
I been away a few months, and I guess I missed this thread.
It's a little late, but since there seems to be no ID, I'll do it.

That's the Long Arm RI-1800 made by Reva International. It's an HID light, but in a lantern form.
Reva also makes the Long Arm RI-2400, which has been out for quite a while. It's a very well made light.

Check it out here.
