El Capitan CR2?

Just wondering if this configuration is possible. I would think the diameter of the light would be compatible with using a 15270 battery, but that all depends on whether a 15270 tube is available that would fit the El Capitan head.

In any event, I think it would be a fairly popular configuration, alongside an AAA Eiger and a CR123 Logan, as it would be significantly smaller than the Logan but still pack the punch of a lithium battery, and it's a battery you can actually find at the supermarket too. (at least you can find them at my supermarket. :p)
 
That light is called the Volcan, a replacement for the old discontinued Pacific. The head uses the Logan optic and
the Cree XPG LED and #0 through #8 power levels. It will be available in HA, Brass and Stainless Steel. Battery
compartments will include a single key ring AAA, a 2xAAA, single key ring AA, single pocket AA, single key ring
CR2, and a single pocket CR2. Some parts are available now, but not everything. We have to manufacture various
HA heads and battery compartments. We will try to have all of the various options done by the end of Sept.
I just finished machining 250 HA heads today, but still need to get them anodized.

The thread on the El Cap is too small for the CR2 battery diameter.

Will the Volcan's head be the same size as the Logan's head, or will it be proportionally smaller to match the smaller diameter of the CR2 battery tube? Obviously it would be impractical to make different-size heads for each battery type, and it would be pointless to do so and even bother calling it the same flashlight, but since the Logan, El Capitan, and Eiger all have size-matched heads it would be awfully nice if the Volcan's head at least matched the widest battery tube it will be able to use.

Will the heads be interchangeable with Pacific bodies?
 
The Logan replaced the Mckinley series lights which have their own specific head size. These new lights will replace the Pacific series, :party: . If you look at the Peak product line-up thread, you'll see all of the various body configurations.

Your only choice for a short El Cap is a 14250 body.
 
Optics determine head size, not the battery tube. So in this case because we are using the same optic as in the Logan,
the head diameter will be the same as the Logan. We will use up the remaining heads that were made for the
Pacific in Brass and SS. There were none left in HA so we had to make them.

All that has changed is upgraded LEDs, electronics and simpler head design for new manufactured heads. Not to
mention a big increase in light output, or less output and more run time as required.

I don't really see the point of making a CR2 light that's the same size as the Logan?
 
I have to be honest, I feel the same way. I admit I don't understand the costs involved, but it seems like a light designed around a 15mm battery tube, using a head fitted with the same optic as the El Capitan with a slightly wider bezel, would be a more marketable product at this point. Otherwise it's just a Logan that's a few mm shorter and a few mg lighter, but not enough-so to justify spending more per-unit to buy a less-common battery. The Aeon is a success because it takes full advantage of the CR2 battery's smaller size; if it just had a Nautilus head and a tapered battery tube, the added value would've been minimal.

A 10440 Logan, or a Logan Penlight, has me dizzy or blinded already.

I heard that....was running SF primaries in my Logan#7- picked up a AW RCR123- it is crazy bright and the bounceback from close up work is unbearable- but it throws like a SOB outside when I need it to.:eek:oo:
 
I can't speak to your personal preferences, but I think most people buying a penlight (whether to use with AAAs or 10440s) would buy an Eiger, not a Logan, because a Logan head on such a skinny body would be awkward and imbalanced. Similarly, I think most people in the market for a CR2 light would want the light to not have any unnecessary bulk, in keeping with why they chose CR2 over CR123 or 18650 in the first place.

While I can appreciate the appeal of having lots of battery options -- and the Volcan sounds like it will give you that -- I don't think most people care all that much about Legoing or about carrying a bunch of battery tubes so they can use any battery they happen to come across.

So I go back to my original suggestion, which really I never deviated from in the first place: an El Capitan (or something very similar to it) with a CR2 battery tube would be a nice addition to Peak's lineup of slim single-cell lights.
