EL lighting

Has anyone have much experience in EL lighting?

Those small battery powered Kriana markers seem interesting and according to my (very rough) calculations they draw more power than current white LEDs.

So since EL is supposed to be very efficient, are these Krill lights very bright?

As posted before, the Krills-IMO, are better thought of as markers than illuminators. Fyi-my white Krill EXtreme draws about 55mA, and is pretty efficient, but is a sad, sad substitute for a well made LED wand, but it's well made. (There are several commercially available LED types).

Also, El material, I think, has a more limited lifespan (2K-3K hours), than the LED-when driven at reasonable levels.

My Krill 180 extreme in green, which is the brightest one, lasted a couple of years before it was toast. The light output is very smooth, but it is not very bright. It's about twice as bright as a typical EL nightlight that you plug into an AC outlet. I would buy any respectable small LED light before I would buy a Krill.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Do you know how much light (in lumens) the Extreme 180 puts out?

vcal. Tell me more about led wands. I have the Krill but want better.

It's not really all that hard to do better than the Krill-IMO

2. the Lazer Stik ($13.) uses L.R.44s buttons-cheap-$2.for 10, 5 diff. colors, simple, bright, super-reliable. www.realgoods.com (item #JSF7398)-use "search" box.
Real Goods has merged with www.jademountain.com (they've got a picture of that stick).

Both of these lights are completely waterproof, and will float.
