Elzetta G-Line

Just as an FYI, you can buy a Z-line this weekend for 15% off and get one of these AA G-lines for free, too.

I picked up another Alpha (I love them), so I'll see how the AA Z-line is.
I have the OEM version of the AA made by Jetbeam. Quite solid and of decent quality. I wouldn't pay full Elzetta prices on it just for the branding, but as a freebie it's a solid deal.

Yeah, $40, even with 15% off was a bit steep, but since I was going to grab another Alpha, anyway, I won't turn it down, haha.
Now that's a light worthy of having two of if ever there was one.

EDIT: You'd have to fight me to get some of my lights, but you'd have to shoot me to get that one.
I concur. It's an absolutely excellent light. I keep a Thyrm on one, and it's my "with pistol" light.

I LOVE the gradual step-down, as you don't even notice it. Plus, what a great CCT.

So, it arrived, and you are 100% correct in your assessment.

It's of decent quality, but there is no way I'd pay the full price ($40) for this. It's nice enough, but $40 is close enough to a Peak Eiger, I'd just get that...or, find a Surefire Titan on sale...if I wanted Elzetta quality.

Oddest of all is the USB 1.5v Li-ion battery. It's MICRO USB (not -C), and so it has a really low capacity (1000 mAh), so the runtimes compared to an eneloop are about half...I guess this is to get USB "ease of recharge" (Assuming you still have an micro-USB laying around or with you).

Overall, the G-EDC-AA is fairly disappointing. It's VERY light weigh, and it's made well enough (It's mid-to-high tier Chinese quality...but clearly Chinese). The head rotates smoothly (maybe too smoothly), but it has a very ugly cool white emitter, and the beam pattern is almost entirely a hotspot with limited spill. Mode selection is easy enough, but it has mode memory (usually), so it's a bit confusing to cycle modes - USUALLY, it has mode memory, but sometimes not. I think, overall, I prefer memory, though.

And, for what it's worth, there's a slight looseness of an Eneloop when it's inside (single spring).

I'm glad I got it for free. The Alpha I got with it (high/low tailcap and flood) is absolutely amazing, and I love it as much as my click spot Alpha.

EDIT: Additionally, I've now been charging this AA USB cell for over 8 hours, and it appears to STILL be charging...so, really low capacity and a WILDLY long charge time. I was KIND OF interested in the idea that you could pop it out and like charge it at work, but unless you're going to pull a double shift, I don't know if that's feasible, haha. For less time, I could charge an Eneloop with almost double the capacity.

Could you define that term for this uninformed Alpha G3 user / fan?;-)
Oh, yeah, sorry. It's the A112; Clicky tailcap with the "standard lens" (which has a hotspot).

The A123 is the Alpha with the standard bezel (1 for standard or 3 for crenelated, first number), then the flood lens (1 for standard, 2 for flood), and then the high/low tailcap (1 for rotary [momentary], 2 for clicky, 3 for high/low, 5 for 5" tape switch, 6 for 12" tape switch).

It's a bit confusing, but the drop downs in the configurator change the model number, so you can "decode" them with a little time.

The Alpha is like the Malkoff Bodyguard, but can take a Thyrm, is a little brighter, and has this AMAZING stepdown mechanic where is slowly dims over like 10 seconds, so you don't even notice the change. The flood lens creates just a huge mass of even light.

The Alpha is absolutely amazing. I think I prefer the high/low ring on the HEAD of a Malkoff, but this tailcap isn't so bad. The Alpha and the High Candela heads for Elzetta still have a more neutral CCT, too.

I kind of want to try a Bravo, but it seems like too much overlap for most of my Malkoffs...

That's funny - I carry one every day now and that didn't even register;-) I'm the A113 guy for sure. STD bezel and lens, w/ hi-lo tail. I do like options though.

Ya know, that's kinda what I thought. I do have 2 MD2s. Then one day, a new Bravo body w/ hi-lo tail, and a ZFL head showed up at my door in two little boxes, and that expanded my horizons a bit, shall we say;-) No regrets on that money, BTW.

I prefer the hi/lo in the tail. It allows for power on/off and level switching with one hand and no acrobatics. My Alpha config is A113 or A313.

If you want a good neutral option for a Bravo AVS head, there's a store that still has previous generation NOS on hand. Here it is on ROG Tactical's webpage.

I sold an older generation AVS Bravo to @delmar and he can attest to the beauty of the tint (non-high CRI). I missed it so much, I bought another one.

The high low is interesting on the Elzetta. I like that I can be in low, and press harder to get to high.

ALSO, for the G-line. I can push the head into the body in my hand for momentary, and even cycle the modes this way. I think it's a bug, but I like it enough, I'm going to call it a feature.

I can't speak for the G-Line, but I've emailed Elzetta about the Z-Line hi/lo tail cap having some slop in the threads. They said it's a feature to allow for low, then momentary high when pushing on the side of the tail cap.

I prefer to do without the slop and feature/flaw, so I wrap Teflon plumbers' tape on the threads for a snug fit.

I kind of don't mind that "feature." I have an AAA Convoy light that has hilarious slop, so I only use that one as a momentary; I don't ever rotate the head, hahah.
