I think I’m going to try the HC head with the click switch. No hi/lo. Hi/lo seems silly.

Yes, a pair of AA alkalines lasts for months and I use my flashlight a lot on low and on high with the diffuser tir lens. It's not as bright as on 3x cr123, but bright enough for my purposes.
The low is very low on AAs. Exactly right in order not to wake up anybody else.
The Charlie is the only flashlight I have (besides a muyshondt maus for travelljng).

Think twice and buy the hi low switch. You won't regret it. If you screw it tight it's the same as the click switch. It makes the Charlie a lot more versatile.
With the HC head you don't have the option to use a diffusor optic. The diffusor makes the Charlie a really useful and ultra tough work light.
I’ll play around. I have a few extra parts laying around. I can run the AVS with Flood or the HC. I really like the HC head and use one on a bravo body daily. I have an extra hi/lo tail too. I’ll just experiment and go from there. I guess I may as well use the hi/lo since I have it. My guess is I’ll end up with the hi/lo 2xaa HC head and then mount the flood AVS to my shotgun using a bravo body.
That's a good idea, yes. I don"t have a HC head besides the avs. Only an old and crenelated head with a Malkoff dropin.
I highly recommend the HC head. I really like it. Plenty of spill with a bit extra throw. Works great for my use. It’s also neutral tinted. I’m a bit disappointed the new AVS heads are cool white.

Oh very interesting. I’d never really thought about doing an emitter swap on an Elzetta. I must try it with one of my Bravos and see how it goes...

It's doable as shown here, Sorry most of the images were lost though.. also there is one online retailer that's still selling new old stock AVS heads with the neutral tint LED.

Reasonably priced, I suggest to give them a call to make sure they still shipping the older model AVS head, I bought mine about 2 month ago from them.
For better or worse, I picked up another Alpha (version unknown) cheap. So, I’ll be making a 2xaa AVS and HC head. So far I like the HC head in 2xaa format. It’s good enough amount of light for most uses and if I need more I can drop 3x123a cells. Thanks for all the info!
Alpha showed up. It is a gen 2. Unexpectedly it has a hi/lo switch. A good surprise. Will have to see what I do with it. The Gen 3 is a better edc for me because it does throw a bit more.

Credit where credit's due, I say. I happened to land on this page the other day and noted that it has been updated since I last saw it. There was some fairly recent discussion in this thread regarding the suitability of this 16340 cell for use in the Alpha Gen3 specifically, and some lack of clarity / ambiguity regarding that in the documentation. They have since added clarification on that matter.

Who hadn't seen the Yellow Charlie for $300+, I got out my own Charlie and looked at the turn cap and pointy bezel and could just imagine replacing two sets of parts here in a month or so. Instead I go for something Spanish instead....
I thought I saved a bundle buying this from that shoddy supplier only to realise I should have bought what I wanted from those Kentucky boys from the start. I don't even know what gen tail cap I need.
Anyways it starts to rain and I look for a light to use. Something I don't really care about if it gets wet or even damaged. Oh yeah that Elzetta. Fck that light anyways sure it is made in USA and 3 x CR123 which is hard to find nowadays because Inova outsourced and Sure isn't making any at the moment.
I turn it on and am annoyed at how it is brighter than the Surefire 9P I have and has the beam of my Maglite Spectrum. Luckily I can't find a belt pouch for it or I would end up carrying it daily. Streamlight may have them beat there at least with the most pouch options.
Well anyways I go and use it in teh rain and it works. I even see a frog with it. Then I use it again to assist a disabled man get from his vehicle to his residence and once more on to take some trash out.
I guess it is time to put a blue bones and yellow C with accessories on the shopping list.
