Emisar D3AA opinions?

More on body-size, Jon.
You showed a photo of a TS10 looking considerably smaller and slimmer than the D3AA (back at comment #33). Then you showed a photo of the D3AA looking just about the same size as the SC54 (#55).
But does this mean...that the TS10 is *smaller* than the SC54???
If so, I am amazed, and I may just have to get a TS10, just to check out the form factor, despite its many drawbacks in my book (don't like triples with optics; don't like PWM; don't like the lack of AA/AAA support).
If it is really that small, maybe I'll keep carrying my H53, and give it a TS10 as a pet!

congrats

is this true for yours:

"the rubber tail switch has an LED that will be 'On' when the light is Off if using a 14500 battery. I leave my tailcap a little loose for this reason."

(not my quote)

dont have an AA Tool anymore, sold mine cause it has a bit thick form factor (and copper was too heavy for my EDC):

of the Lumintop Tool Line, Im a fan of the AAA models

I much prefer a D3AA because it has my favorite UI, Anduril 2
It does illuminate with a 14500, but not a Nimh. I run Eneloops for everything with my AA lights, so it's not an issue for me.

I dont like PWM either, I tolerate it in the TS10 because I like the form factor so much

D3AA (triple) and the newly announced KR1AA (single) are dual fuel w no pwm

The H53 uses variable lux output (M1 is particularly deep), although it is not visible, the D3AA driver has more constant lux and lower flicker Index..

Im hoping the KR1AA (NoPWM) will bump the TS10 out of my pocket. KR1AA is same diameter as TS10, 21mm

don't like triples
TS10SG is a single SF25 6000K, extremely throwy (I carry a TS10SG w sw45k mod)

btw, the TS10 does not have glass, so this cant happen:

The H53 is tiny, but I dont carry it because I often hold a light in my mouth (briefly) which is very awqward w a right angle light.

TS10SG costs $20 from wurkkos, blue is sold out, only black still available
amazon has blue, costs $9 extra

the TS10 series is on clearance, it has been discontinued.. dont delay
if you buy from Amazon you can return it easily...
the one really nice thing, for me, is the TS10SG comes w a USB-C battery

FWIW, to have a dissenting opinion, I got rid of my TS10 cause it felt REALLY GOOFY in my hands. The taper in the middle, with the wider "barbell" ends just was not good to hold on to. Also, the tailswitch was quite "sproingy," and so clicking around in Anduril was especially unpleasant.
To be fair, XL gloves are a bit snug on me (but what I tend to wear), and I like the MDC AA the most, BECAUSE it's a bit longer for my hands. If you have more regular sized hands, maybe the TS10 works better (it's like me and Glocks - my finger joints are JUST long enough to be opposite to the harder edges of the Glock frame, so it's REALLY uncomfortable for my hands).

That being said, the sharp edges of the D3AA is exactly why I haven't tried one. I very much dislike those sharp edges. They either annoy the hand, or get quickly dinged and worn down, leaving an uneven, unanodized edge...begging the question - why didn't you just soften the edge from the get go? haha.

Yep, I got the curse of the big hands, too. So, maybe the TS10 won't work for me. Still, I like my lights on the small side, and for $20 I can try it out.

Micro-Arc Oxidation (MAO) vs. Anodizing: What's the Difference? - VMT CNC Machining China

Burgess, thanks for posting that link. I got frustrated the other day trying to figure out what MAO is exactly. Google and Wikipedia were absolutely no help at all. I was sitting next to my wife and asked her if she thought MAO would be an acronym or a nickname. She looked at one of Jon's pictures that I showed her and she said "Mayonnaise. Duh."

Well from then on, every time I see MAO my brain thinks of The Mayo Light.

I just received one of the LAST blue TS10SG models from Wurkkos !
Had to add it to my order (for my MAO),
cuz' I like mine so much, needed to have a Spare !

I'm sure you all can understand.

 :lovecpf:

time will tell whether Hank offers MAO on KR1AA (imo not very likely).. he does not offer MAO on D3AA, nor Da1K.

The D3AA first came out in Aluminum, after some time, he added Ti w Copper Head, then Copper and Brass models.. (I dont care for the extra weight of non aluminum)

I'm also waiting to see what the beam looks like... Im guessing there may be a more throwy optic and a more floody option, as w Da1K (no experience).. D3AA also offers multiple optic options..

KR1AA Design is reminiscent of FW1AA.. Hopefully rear (steel) button will have a more positive travel.
I gifted my previous Lumintop flashlights, said to myself I'll never buy another.. As Toykeeper pronounces, cha-bu-doo. It sucks;-)

If wurkkos can do it, I have faith that Hank can do it, lol...perhaps the d3aa was just too small for MAO to be effective? How is the knurling compared to other MAO hanklights? (Also I noticed that Hank's MAO lights have press fit rings only for the switch....MAO probably adds a fluffy layer to any aluminum surfaces...)

If Wurkkos can do it
Wurkkos MAO ships w a chalky and porous outer layer. TS10 V1 MAO was particularly poorly finished and extremely chalky, and thin. TS10 V2 MAO is better, but still ships w a (slightly less) chalky surface.

Hanks Stone White is thicker and smoother and is available on the Emisar D2

MAO costs extra, I dont think consumers have been willing to pay the price, so Hank has stopped financing it.

Since the Wurkkos TS10 series has been discontinued,
makes me wonder what its Replacement will be ?

Would LOVE to have it be Dual-Fuel !
(AA or 14500)

Cuz' it's always a comfort to me, knowing that
replacement cells would be widely available
if "difficulties" may arise.

omg id love that and same form as old one the sofirn version sucks with that little power button

Fireflies has, or had, a nice heavy Moa finish as well. They offered two shades. I own the off white kinda light tan and it's tough as nails.

What I meant by sucks, is the whole cultural attitude of "chabudoo" imo sucks, along with Lumintop. Hanks new body has same contours minus the fins. I'm sure (hopefully) his tail switch will be better.

Thought I read Hank has his machining done in same factory as Lumintop did?
Perhaps he performs his own QT during in-house assembly? That would make perfect sense to me.. but then again what do I know 🤙
