I've read in some posts, that the EN coating of the MC Flood's reduces the reflectivity considerably. Do you plan to offer some uncoated MCFlood's in the future? Or is the coating used to reduce beam artifacts?

PeterB,

The EN coating was a boo boo mistake on our part way back when. Not that I or anyone in the Skunks knows about optics...

We have pricing from a place we plan on getting more from.

The question that I'm tossing over and over and over is whether to get the inside polished (bare aluminum) or see if I can get it polished and sputtered aluminum and try to make a real reflector surface on the inside.

Here again, surface finishes is not my forte (??). And the only way to get a reasonable cost on them is to order a fair amount of them.

If I was just rolling in dough, I would probably just get both and see what comes of it.

I would like to ideally get the maximum light out and to not have a polished surface to break up and beam artifacts. That would be ideal. How to specify that and get what I want is what I don't know exactly how to call it out.

When I first got my McFloods, I was very disappointed in the beam pattern. After I thought about it, I decided to go over the inside of the reflector with a very fine grit sandpaper and it worked miracles on the beam pattern. It's now very even. I bead blasted my second one, but it didn't work any better than the one I used the sand paper on. The bead blasted McFlood did look cool though.

Chop,

I have had the same take. I think for focused or flood, a bit of randomizing improves the blend of color and evens out the "impurities" of the beam.

I have swapped mine around from a BB400 in a MM*g to its current home in a mini LGI whose very white emitter minimizes the slight "darkening/subtle tinting" effect of the nickel plate ...

the beam pattern actually seems quite even to me and I really like it--I think sputtered or orange peel on a polised reflector would work quite well--I'd definitely buy one of the new ones (still trying to cram one in my ARC grey ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif )
