Eneloops in a Kodak Camera

We have a inexpensive point & shoot Kodak camera which takes 2xAA. We have always used rechargeables in it. First E2500s, then D2650 & now Eneloops. Recently it has been demonstrating some odd behavior.

BTW, we charge the Eneloops in the 4 independent bay charger with the sliding cover.

The odd behavior: somtimes the camera will shut off like the batteries are completely dead. It did this yesterday, first with the set that was used and still in the camera, and then again with the unused, charged backups we keep in the bag. But when I check the batteries I get voltages around 1.30 for the used set & 1.34 for the unused spares. It never used to do this. I realize that the camera is voltage sensitive and 1.30 each might be too low (but I don't think that it should be.) And definitely, the spares measuring 1.34 shouldn't have been a problem.

The only thing that I can think of is the contacts are dirty, either on the batteries, or in the camera, or both. I don't have any, but am considering geting Deoxit / Deoxit Gold. Any other thoughts? The contacts inside the camera have a golden yellow color. Do I assume they are gold plated & use Deoxit Gold?

Thanks, DavidD

It does sound like the camera has developed some kind of fault.

As you have already suggested cleaning the contacts is a good first step, just try cleaning the contacts.
(without any worries about which DeoxIT you use - for longer term then use the correct version - the regular DeoxIT has more cleaning action - so sounds more like the one to use).

If the camera still exhibits the same problem after cleaning then maybe something else is now wrong with the camera.
