Well I was in walmart today and couldn't resist it
(Hi my name is Todd, I'm addicted to bright things, oh and sharp things, and bicycle things and and and...)
It's pretty neat for $15, got the camo verison. It takes 4D's I upgraded the lamp to a 3 cell krypton right away. I like the pockets, a person could easily store 2 spare sets of batteries (8 D's) in the 2 pockets or one set and a spare bulb or two in the other etc.
It seems to be built fairly solidly the handle a softer material and is comfortable. The pockets are zippered with a mesh outter pocket with bungee compression straps and a tiny mesh elastic pocket on the rear. It has a metal stand that allows the light to sit flat, at about a 20 deg angle and a 45 deg angle. The rear of the handle can be unclipped I can only assume to attach the light to a rope or loop etc.
The lens is clear with about a 1/2" frosted dia. cirlce and the reflector is smooth with large facetes on about the first 1/3 of the reflector.
The beam was pretty impressive. It has some rings it's basically a 3 stage beam. It has a tight spot that's probably 3" at 10'. Then there is another definate circle of even light (not as bright) that's about 2' in dia. at 10', then a large circle of spill light that didn't go into the first 2 beams.
The light inside the beams is fairly smooth, however there are definate lines seperating the 3 zones that are a little jagged. For $15 I was actually quite impressed with the beam compared to other similar priced/sized lights. I like that the light has a bright mid-flood beam with a really narrow spot as well it should do close and far duty well.
The one weakness I would give it is that the screw off lens is not sealed well. There is a extra layer, it's like a 3 level system, the outer lens housing is the first barrier than the inner housing threads over the main body. So it's probably splash/rain proof but certainly nothing more. It really needs a rubber seal in there somewhere but doesn't seem to have one. I'll have to work in a seal in there somewhere.
Good car/house light, but I still think some of the dive lights with better waterproofness and impact resistance do better. Of course that's for 3x the price as well.
