I can't quite get my head around all these down boys mad max's and nexgen things, if any of you enlightened ones could advise me I'd appreciate it. What I'm after is the smallest possible light (cr2 body, flat top, aleph 2 head). I want a light I can use on low for the majority of the time for walking around but with "big" punch for short periods, so the runtime on high is not too important as long as its not less than around 20 minutes. Is this a possible build? would a prt head be better? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif TIA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

I was and am,going threw the same thing....go to the McGizmo site, and copy the FAQ must read, section, turn off the computer, find somplace quiet....and read threw the 48 printed pages, a few times.. take note, and re-read. there is one "custom" set up, in the graphs section... Aleph 2, lux 111, NG400, 1x123, run time 2:15 with 1000 lux. Good luck.

On a Cr2 body, you're going to be limited to either a BadBoy, NexGen, or MadMax converter.

The Cr2 cell has a small capacity. If you went with a nexgen350, I suppose you'd get around 40 to 50 minutes of runtime.

Is that on full? I was thinking nexgen badboy with a high drive 750+ on an LuxIII but the majority of the time being used with 15 ohm resistor? am I just fantasising here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

How does this sound then, cr2 body, flat top tailcap 15 ohm, aleph 1 head (for a bit more throw) a badboy 500. A "U" or better flux and "YO" or "XO" tint /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif Oh yeah and who's got all the bits /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds great! Send all your U bin emtters over here, and I'll volunteer to build one of these for you. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the offer Darell, unfortunately I've only got one U bin and its in another light /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif but if ones comes about be sure to let me know you're hired /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Call me crazy.
I run my Aleph 2 with a CR2 at 750mA.
Yeah, it's a lot of draw on a little CR2. But, most of my use is low beam (10 Ohms). The CR2 will only run high beam for about 35 minutes, but I don't use it that much.---Marc

My experience with MadMax WO and CR2's is ~ 1 hour of "bright" before the real decline is noticed. With 25 Ohm, it is useful for 20+ hours. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Don't mean to talk about another product but my Chop built FF1 head has a BB700 running at 700mA. I'm using it with the CR2 body. The CR2 lasts a good while running it on high intermittently and I love all the light that comes out of this tiny thing! I'm using the 30 ohm resister on the low mode, (which is perfect for me), and it runs a very LONG time with the CR2.

Hey guys, I just built a light engine with a NexGen100. It puts out a surprising amount of light. Perhaps a NexGen200 LE would be just the ticket for a good runtime in a Cr2 based light.
