Eternalight Idea?

Mr. Eternalight,
I like your lights just fine, as they are. I would imagine takeing out the features, which are very easy to "not use", would make little difference in the price. May be more expensive, because then you have something "different" to produce, stock & distribute. Voltage regulation would be a nice feature. I just got the X-Ray with beacon (not Elite) and I love it. Much brighter & whiter than my Marine. The blinker/nitelite is very handy. Thanks for a great light. TX

I kinda liked the idea they had for the krillian custom clone thingy: a Glow powder interior, lit by a UV LED that pulsed every 20minutes for 20sec. Would this be more efficient for the X-Ray?

Also, how about a small cap between the PWM and the LED to allow more efficent low light use..

I've been thinking of getting that new model X-Ray. But the Magnet scares me. I'm around computer media and monitors continueously. Can it be removed?

ps.I love my ErgoM, and I've got to admit I rarely use anything other that On/Off.

Duff,
I just got the X-Ray with the "beacon" LED, & it's great. This is not the Elite with the magnet. Hosefelt has it for $35 + shipping. I liked my Marine until I got this one. Much brighter & whiter output. Anyone want to buy a LNIB Eternalight Marine for a decent price??? TX

SWEET!

Duff,
When you 1st see the flashing "finder light" in the day time, you'll think "well, I may be able to find it in the dark". But when you wake up in the middle of the night, you'll wonder who came in & replaced the LED while you were asleep. It is truley amazeing how much brighter lights are when your eyes are completely dark adjusted. And you can get around the house by just turning it on to constant. Don't even need to turn on the light. It is a very nice light for the price. TX

OK blantant somewhat off topic question...

Isn't the blink somewhat annoying? I have to have my room as pitch black as possible to sleep, this includes covering the LEDs on the front of my laptop that indicate it's plugged in...wouldn't the blink be somewhat annoying at night? Is it bright enough to light up the room or just bright enough to make the X-Ray glow...

It lights up a portion of the room when in constant on mode, but not in blink mode. It doesn't interupt my sleeping as I nearly always sleep with my eyes closed.

TX,
It's those times you're asleep with your eyes open that has us worried.......

So you say your new Eternalight is brighter and whiter than the old one? I wonder what's up with that? I have an x-ray and Marine but got them at the same time and haven't noticed any real difference but I must admit I haven't put them side by side. Hummmmmm....

I found this somewhat strange, since the Marine had lithiums & the X-Ray had akalines. I noticed the difference as soon as I turned it on. Didn't need a side by side comparison. I knew the lithiums should still be close to new so I checked them. All read 1.7V or higher. I swapped the batteries & the X-Ray still seems to be same. But side by side, there is definately a difference. They said the Elite was going to be brighter. Maybe some of those LED's made it to this light. TX

TX,
I grabbed my Marine and X-ray and aside from some color difference, illumination appeared to be the same. I think you may have got yourself a turbo X-ray

I don't think the features built into the Eternalight are "too much." In fact, it's nice to have those features when you want them...

If you're reading a book...is one dimming level enough? What if that dim mode is still too bright?

What if you're stuck on the side of the road? Simply put your Eternalight on fast blink mode and stick it on top of the car for extra safety...

The list goes on and on....ok, maybe "dazzle" is not really needed, but I've found use for even the strobe feature. It's great for parties! (The fast blink, too.)

I think these features are what make the Eternalight what it is...

And now if someone put the controller from the Eternalight into the ARC LS...we'd have a perfect product.

(Well, almost perfect.)

I have to say that I love my Elite Xray, but the only features I find I really use are the dimmable mode and the night beacon. Currently, it is serving heavy duty as a diaper changing light

, but it is a PITA to have to turn it on and press the buttons 9 or 10 times to get it down to a glimmer.

I couldn't care less if all the other features were there or not, if the flashlight WOULD JUST REMEMBER THE MODE IT WAS IN! (sorry for yelling

If I turn it off in a dim mode, I'd like it to turn itself back on in that same mode, at the same level. Just my $0.02.

I can see room for a little improvement on the E-light. I think PULSE should be moved to follow ON/DIM. That would put all the "flashlight" modes together & all the "blinker" modes together. The other thing would be on the dimmer. Perhaps program on the chip that if you hold the dimmer button down for 1 or 2 seconds, it would skip all the way to the dimmest mode on 4 LED's. Then push & hold another second, & it goes back to HIGH. Still keep the 9 levels & the 3,2,1, light mode. TX

I wonder is a quick press on the power button could bring the light back on in the mode it was last in. A longer duration of pressing the on button could reset it to the normal full brightness mode.

For me, Mr. Dummy, I'd like to see the middle button be power with the button on the left for dimmer and the one on the right for brighter. I get frustrated by not being able to go back to the next brighter setting.

Or maybe a tweak on that. They have it go into that first mode because that is "Battery Save"

so maybe it could be programmed like this (Hard to explain but I'll try)

Short press, light goes into battery save/timer mode. Light comes on as soon as button is released

Longer press: The lights wouldn't come on when you held down that button...at first, but then they would come on after, say a 1-2 second push to the prev. mode.

SO....lets say you turned your light off in the dimmest level with 1 LED on....

If you just hit the button it would turn on in timer mode

If you held it down it would not come on right at first, but when it did come on only the 1 led would come on, and the fact that the light came on at all would tell you to let go of the button.

Anybody have a Nokia cell phone?? Think of the power button, when you press it it goes to that menu to power off/make it quiet. If you HOLD it DOWN then it turns off...

Get the picture?

Ahhhh. Nothing like dissing somebody's favorite light to liven up a thread. No charge.

My problem isn't how many things the light can do, it is what you have to wade through to get it to do what you want. Some of that was touched on just before I had a chance to get back here.

Again, I don't think these are bad lights in any way. They're wonderfully innovative, and fill a great niche. From what I've seen and heard they are high-quality, and easily pocketable. My main point of my posts is simply to explain why I have not purchased one yet. BUT, that said, there is one winging its way to me right now, and my hope is that I'll have something (nearly) interesting to say once I've thoroughly played with one for a while. The fact is, I currently don't like the *idea* of having to cycle through so many modes. Too many buttons and too many modes. Soon I'll know what it is like to actually use on a daily basis, and we'll see if I'm a convert at that time.

Stand by.

You only need to push the Mode button once to use it for all the things you want. If you only need full brightness for less than 3 min, just push the Power button. Every 3 min a LED will turn off until they're all off. Or push the power button again & they all turn off. If you want to use it longer than that, push the Power button once to turn it on, & the Mode button once to make it stay on. When you don't need it any more, push the Power button again to turn it off. Now you've cycled through all the modes you're interested in useing. All both of them, & only pushed the Mode button once. If you want to dim the light while in the ON mode, push the adjust button (as in adjust light level). This is not cycleing through modes, this is simply dimming the light. I think it would be handy here to be able to push & hold for a second & have it switch from 4 LED's at there brightest to 4 at their dimmest, but still maintain the 9 dimming levels. When you're through with the light, push the Power button, & the light goes off. You've still only cycled through 2 modes...On/Timer & On/Dim...and only pushed the Mode button once.

Another reason to stay away from the Blinking Modes is, if your daughter sees it in these modes, you may only be allowed to use it when she's asleep.
