I'd like to add that the Eternalight is my favorite hiking light. Sure, its beam doesn't provide a long throw, but it has a nice and even, broad beam. I usually load it up with three fresh nimh AA's and it's good for a looooooong time!
Plus, using nimh gives it a pretty constant light output, so IMHO, you can make the Eternalight a semi-regulated light by just using nimh! (Yeah, it's a hassle to change them, though....)
Tom, you make a great product. If there are any changes I'd like to see to the Eternalight...actually some were "proposed" a while back on your website's new product suggestion section.
An 8 led regulated Eternalight that is the same size would be awesome....ability to last as long as the current Eternalight (at the same output--8 led's dimmed) or full blast mode with all 8 leds on at their brightest setting....
I think you were mentioning some problems...like how the 8 led model would deplete the batteries too much...and that would go against the Eternalight's long life, huh?
Would the 3AAA Eternalight be just as bright?Everything the same except the size?
How about fusing McGizmo's idea...and coming out with a luxeon-based flashlight...using the current material you use in the Eternalight Elite X-Ray, but shaping it like more like a traditional flashlight. It could use 3 AA batteries that sit side-by-side/in a triangular prism shape (similar to how the AAA batteries in a Photon Fusion sit, but more close together).
There could be a good chunk of aluminum in the body for heat dissipation.
