Ever feel like you've gone overboard with the number of lights youve bought?

I didnt even realize that LED flashlights had "evolved" to the point that they were actually a viable replacement for standard bulb flashlights until last year. Prior to that, the only LED lights I had seen were the cheap 5mm LED based lights. I had bought a headlamp in 2007 that had a luxeon LED and 3 5mm LED's that seemed pretty good, but not super.

But then I discovered this site out of nowhere, and started snooping around here reading threads, and reviews, then in Sept of 2011 I bought my 1st higher end LED flashlight. Then I bought the 2nd one about 2-3 weeks later. Then about 5-6 weeks ago, I kinda went on an LED flashlight binge, where I have bought 7 more since then!

I bought a Zebralight SC600 about 6 weeks ago, then a Solarforce L2P with an XM-L 3 mode module about 1 week later, then about 2 weeks ago I bought a Lumapower D Mini Ex-2 that I quickly returned for refund due to multiple(and I mean multiple) problems. I replaced it with an Eagletac G25C2 last week. Then late last week, another member emailed me letting me know that Lightjunction is getting more limited edition Ti D25's in. So I mistakenly ordered the AA Ti D25A, then instead of cancelling the D25A, and switching the order to the correct Ti D25C(Cr123), I just ordered it too! That same night as I ordered the D25C, I read a thread here where someone pointed out that Thrunite is selling a small light on sale out of their own retail site for $10.99, so I bought it too.........

I think I will be taking it easy for a while, but it'll be hard, because I wont be getting the 3 lights I just ordered for about 1.5 - 4 weeks, because they arent in yet at Lightjunction, and the $10.99 one is coming from China, so that will take a while to get here. Last night I was looking at the HDS Rotary, but I'll hold off on that, and the Electrolumens ST-90 Search & Rescue I've been wanting......

Have you, or are you going overboard with lights?:shakehead

I know where you coming from, but the way I figure it, when I have "extra's" that dont fit my collection, I start giving them away to my extended family. I keep all my Titanium lights as I just reckon they look cool!

Yes and no. Sometimes having so many flashlights can seem redundant to say the least, but I give my older ones to family members or use them as beaters, car lights, loaners, or find another excuse for having so many lights. The improvements in UI, tint/CRI/color temps, and other design features keep me coming back.

My latest purchase is the Zebralight H502d. In one light I get my first headlamp, my first pure flood light, my first 90 degree light, and my first high CRI at a high color temp (5000K) all wrapped into one. I've rationalized this light into a must purchase, and I am getting damn good at doing this with each new light. I am telling myself this will be the last light for a while, but I'm sure we have all been there and know that usually doesn't last long.

Hmmmm, sometimes I'm not sure what overboard would be anymore....as I've lost track of where the boat starts and stops.

😀

If the boat has a pool, I might not be overboard....but its too dark to tell just yet....I need more light to see for sure.

Over the years I've bought way more than I really need but I've learned a lot. I've learned what I like best in a light and the little nuances of the different manufactures.

I've been selling off some of my light's here and there at the Marketplace and now a light really needs to appeal to me in a useful way before I will buy it. I could not have got to this point though unless I had bought all the lights that I have bought so no regrets or anything like that.

I think I've gotten 15 lights this year! (mostly small Fenix and 4Seven Quarks along with 18650 based (one each) Eagletac, Zebralight and Olight)

There are more that I am talking myself out of...

This is my hobby, learning and changing my collection to help me decide what I want. Do I have too many? Whose asking? Did my wife send you? 😱oo: I wont tell you the number :grin2: LOL

Thanks to CPF Marketplace I've bought and sold an embarrassing amount of lights. However, it has given me the chance to really find out what I like the most and try out lights that I wouldn't have bought new.
When you're done checking them out it's easy enough to post them back on Marketplace. It's really an amazing service that adds a ton of value to coming here.
If you don't like buying used, don't forget to use your membership discounts available here when buying new.
Sounds like you're having fun with it, there are much worse ways to spend your time and money.
It's funny how you described your reaction when discovering the level that LED lights have evolved to, I think it's a common feeling amongst flashoholics.
Sees modern LED light..."Wait,..WHAT?". Binge.

I'd still like a handful more (nice ambiguous, non-limiting number there), but I have spent a good chunk of change in a very short period of time once the hook got in me. So, thanks in part to an agreement I made with my wife to hold off until Christmas time (on flashlights, but not accessories.... lol), and my own sense of having satisfied much of that initial frenzied craze to capture, hold and own these amazing light creations..... I feel I have "around" enough. And even with a handful more over time, even then it still won't be too much or too many. Because I have survived he initial flurry - for the most part.

try not to buy them faster than they can ship them:laughing:
like others have mentioned, the marketplace is a great place. it doesnt seem like your urges will stop, but you can move the lights that dont fit you, and use the funds for other lights.
i do that from time to time, and put up a sale for many lights at a time. one time i thought i was done with buying more, i had about 6-7 for my personal use, and honestly felt it wasnt enough. good part for me is now i dont experiment with different lights, ive tried enough lights to know what i like for my needs and uses.
good news is after the sprees youll narrow your choices more, then youll probably start buying multiplies of your favorites.

I've got 15 with No16 on the way and No.17 waiting for payday. 😀
I say no, misses on the other hand says am mad. :grin2:

Old photo. I've increased the collection by about 50% since this photo. Have I gone overboard? Nope!

This light collection is just another hobbies that make you addict to it real quick.
I am a real newbie, just around a month here. At first I thought I would buy 1 a month on average, 12/yearly doesnt matter the cost of each so it could be a hobby that won't hit my budget.
Got a X2000, X8 then TK70. Went to pick up TK70 then got A8 then ordered Trustfire 01. Today I went to upgrade my Mag 6D and got 2 HD2010.
Still bunch of them in my wanted list that I would love to have but may have to slow down now.

Keep hanging around here long enough and you'll find yourself rationalizing a "need" for a Maxabeam and all sorts of other non-sense.:devil:

It's not overboard until it's enough to sink the boat... 🙂 I've got more than I need, less than I used to, and I'm a bit more discerning than I used to be. As said, it's a learning curve discovering what you like, have a use for, (real or perceived) or just flat out want to check out... I find it somewhat satisfying finding something that flat out works for what I want it for, no compromises, etc.

I did and I wasn't using them which is the reason I sold most of them. I have only a couple more to sell including a Wolf eyes storm and then I'll be done.

Will I buy more lights again? Sure but no money right now.

Also, I have milky building me an emergency flashlight but that's it.
