Sold/Expired === Exotic Coating Service Update ===

Candle Power Flashlight Forum

Help Support CPF:

My lights and other items appear to be listed correctly with their respective coatings, however, I think I failed to make clear that I would prefer everything be polished at least minimally.

I would hope this makes it easier on you to not have to further subdivide parts.

I'm also concerned about the hard, crisp edges on some items increasing the chance of chipping the coating like the example photo you posted in the other thread. Certain of my lights & tools look new, and while preserving the machined finish beneath the coating has its appeal, most also have blemishes I would just like polished out before coating.

One other note: the brass PD piston has nickel plating already. If this doesn't require stripping before the hard chrome is applied, then less work for you.

Modamag,
I emailed you. Please let me know how to to go about sending my parts in. I don't want to hold up the process. I want HA black too so hopefully there will be enough for a run.

Since you're new, you may not realize that this thread isn't the start of this coating run. It's been going on for quite a while. The original deadline for sending in parts was in October. That was extended to November and I think a couple of others have "squeezed" things in. Take a look at the dates on this post:

http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showpost.php?p=3086864&postcount=1

So, I'm sure you can understand that people who have already been waiting for months, don't really want to wait for more parts to be sent in. Modamag already has a lot to deal with cataloging all the parts and scheduling them for machining, polishing and coating.

I sent it off for custom digital camo duracoating. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome to the forum.

I agree that the initial responses to your post were unnecessarily harsh, that's why I took the time to explain the situation. Welcome to CPF! :^)

:duh2:Not if he'd bothered to read both the TITLE (specifically the last word) of this thread AND the thread referenced in the VERY FIRST SENTENCE of this thread.

Plus, I'm aware of AT LEAST ONE OTHER person who HAS (or at least claims to have) sent in one just a week or so ago.

So, yeah, I am a little touchy on the subject.

I realize I have no right to or authority to do so, but I did ask people to keep this thread on topic in post #26.

Please do not edit post earlier than this one. I use it as a marker and only read post from this point and newer.

In order to not add any further junk for Modamag to wade through, this will be my final post to this thread unless Modamag needs any info from me for my order.

That's a relief, I can now sleep tonight.

:welcome:

It is irrelevant what anyone other than Modamag has to say about you being allowed to send in something, so realize that a couple members do not speak for the bulk of CPF. It is not our job to speak for Modamag's project, and if he wanted to accept your late arrival, that should be perfectly fine with everyone. Custom projects always take longer than anticpated. Again, wrxzzz, welcome to the forum.

Agreed, Modamag has the final say, but my concerns about delays are not irrelevant nor do you know if I am voicing the opinion of the members involved in this project or not. My lights have been gone for months now and I understand this type of project takes time but I don't want the delays compounded by latecomers sending in way past the extended deadlines. If I had known this I could have enjoyed my lights and sent them in next week instead. Johnathan set the deadline and even extended it, but at some point in fairness to members whose lights have been gone for awhile it should be closed to new lights.

You truly are welcome to the forum, and I guess since Modamag didn't post in the beginning of the thread any specific reference to being closed to any additional lights I can understand your asking.

I must not be a true flashaholic because I'm not that attached to my lights to where I don't mind them being gone for two months. Especially if the getting a service done to them like this. Even if it took 4 months to get them back, I would be okay with it. This service comes around maybe every 1-1.5 years. I'm more concerned with them being done correctly.

wrxzzz

Believe it or not, this is one of the friendliest and helpfull groups you will ever encounter. When I was a wee little noob, LuxLuthor put up with my constant dumb questions for about a month. There are many more I could name as well. Some people sent in very high $$ lights and I'm sure they are a little impatient about getting them back.

There is always a positive side; at least we are not part of the coating thread over on CPFmarketplace. I believe that one is over a year old.

QtrHorse, it's not about whether one's a flashaholic or not, personally I think the term is idiotic, and I have no issue with whatever time it takes to do the job within the constraints of Modamag's schedule (it's very generous of him to do so) but it is frustrating to see it held up by the continuing inflow of latecomers.

I don't think there is really any continuing inflow of latecomers holding this up. I don't think Jonathan is even in the country at this time so their isn't even any work being done on these lights right now anyway.

Think about it.

These anodising runs are more trouble than they are worth for the people doing them (which is probably why Mirage Man stopped doing them). Jonathan is not going to make any real money on these runs so do we really think he is going to hold up an entire run just so one guy can send in one light?

Think about it. What should I be thinking about?

Hey I appreciate this service every bit as much as anybody else and in no way are any of the comments made by me and certain others directed at Johnathan if anything I think he is probably too nice a guy trying to accommodate everybody and I am sure this is a labor of love and good will to the forum members from him and not about profit.

And you know this how? Has Modamag let you know?

He made all of us know that he would be out of the country. He barely had enough time to catalog the lights before leaving.

The mere fact that he was called away on business unexpectedly (twice) was a de facto postponement of the time when the work would commence. This person or that person wanting to get in at the last moment has absolutely nothing to do with why this is taking longer than it should. Absolutely nothing.

Work is not going to commence until he comes back from overseas anyway.

I really don't see what the big deal is. I really don't.

Like I said these anodising runs are more trouble than they are worth for the people who do them.

~tberger (9015) is me. I'm not sure if there's no prep work, since the pill/reflector may be difficult to get out. Otherwise, it's correct.

Damnit, only just found this thread, had the old thread bookmarked and was just checking that!!

I'm top of the list in red, JBailey, with the Raw NS, and as specified in the other thread, I wish to have it chromed. I am not sure whether it needs polishing, I'll leave it up to you, but if it would make it any smoother in finish, then yes please polish it first!

Cheers!

Hoping that Germany will return Jonathan to us soon, as I'm still waiting patiently to be cataloged in.
