Expedition 1900 (Led array resistor value?)

Hello,

I understand the newer Expedition 1900 has a series droping resistor installed on the
Led board array. The original 1900 does not and is slightly brighter. What is the difference
in Led drive level between the two? Are the 19 led conversion boards that C crane sells the
newer or older units?

You can buy the light modules for those. However, I have no idea if the modules are of the new type.

I had a real bad experience with the Extreme. 2 in a row that developed the same problem in less than 30 minutes of use: strobing. I think this was due to the LED cracking, probably from heat of other defect.

This may be why it was added in the 1900. What they may have done, is bring the drive level down to a safe level for the LEDs. Tek-Tite is the one who makes these. They are just C. Crane branded with a different model name.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I have been very happy with my 1400. It is bright with a very wide dispersion angle, the beam is gratifyingly "white" rather than blue, it is much lighter, smaller and brighter (for the first approx 3-4 hrs) than the LW 3000 and it provides at least 7-9 hours of relatively undiminished light, in addition to being easily operated by one hand if you keep it well lubed. And of course there is also that terrific wrist strap, probably the best in the field, not to mention the fact that it's waterproof to Cousteau depths.

Nice advertising.

Yes, the 1400 is a good light, and I agree with you on pretty much all points. I do like the button on the LW3000 though, but since I don't dive, I don't need a light to handle 300 feet depth.

I'll see if I can find a 1900 module with a resistor and then measure it.
