At home I'm charging them with an intelligent charging station ALC 7000 Expert. The manufacturer claims it has proper end of charge (and also end of discharge) determination, and this truely seems to work. You can set independent charge and discharge currents from 10mA to 3.5A. Nevertheless, charging currents of more than about 0.3C warm up the cells right from the start of charging, und makes them quite hot towards the end of the charging cycle.

When travelling I use a very compact 4 cell charger which charges AAs at a fixed rate of 450mA. It also has an end of charge sensing mechanism and changes from fast to trickle charge upon completion of the charge cycle, but it regularly heats up NiMHs to the point that you can just stand it on your bare hands. I guess it must be more than 50°C, and I doubt it's doing any good to the cell's life expectancy.

Any idea how hot your Twicells get at the iC rate, Klaus?
