and if not, can one change the LED to get the colors to come out as they would with daylight? or which compact light/headlamp would give the colors more justice?

Take a look at neutral white Zebralight or ArmyTek headlamps 🙂

I am using gel type lens filters to change the light color ... amber has worked the best so far with skin tones. makes perfect mobile lighting

Why not just adjust your camera's white balance?
