No, I'm sorry, no beam shots. None is really needed. Just wanted to issue this report for the heck of it. Not that anyone will care, unless they crack open this forum 200 years from now and some scholar writes a paper about early 21st century lights and how they compared with one another. Which is assuming there will be anyone around in 200 years with the technology to care about such things. But since that (currently) seems unlikely, let's get on with the comparison.
The MaxLite I, for those who do not know, was, in its time, a very impressive little 1xAA light. And the price reflected that fact :mecry:. The hotspot of the Fenix L1D CE is about twice the diameter of the MaxLite I. This might mean the MaxLite has a bit more throw, I'm not sure, just that the Fenix has a "larger" throw, if you know what I mean. It's interesteing that (and this is an unscientific observation) the hotspots were about equally intense. Each one was equally "lost" in the other when compared on a wall in a totally dark room.
The MaxLite I is still an impressive light, even measured against the latest 1xAA Cree. But seeing as I could buy nearly 6 of the Fenix model today for the original price of the MaxLite, there's no way I'd do so again based on output alone. As far as quality, well, that remains to be seen. But I would bet the Max will be operating long after the Fenix has malfunctioned for this, that, or the other reason. As far as runtime, I forget the MaxLite particulars, but it's probably about a wash. Again, considering how old the Max is, a very impressive performance.
But dang, I did forego buying a coveted pair of boots at the time in favor of getting the MaxLite. Advice, for what it's worth... Unless there is darn good reason to do otherwise, buy the boots instead. Chances are, light technology will catch up soon enough to not make the "latest & greatest" expensive purchase seem quite so prescient.
But dang, that MaxLite was sure impressive at the time. And still is.
