I recently lost my led lenser P7 and was on the net going to buy a new one and then I came across the Fenix LD20.
It looks great, nice size and has a 180 lumens to the +- 170-200 lumens of the led lenser P7.

has anyone compared the two? has anyone got a fenix LP 20 and can tell me more about it?

to throw another torch in the loop, how is the Olight T25 tactical compare to the above torches?

thanks
Robin

Well they're quite different lights.. 4xAAA vs 2xAA, adjustable optics vs fixed reflector, forward vs reverse clicky, 2 vs many modes, no regulation vs regulation.. with LD20 you wont see as far, or get as even flood as with P7, but there's no need (or possibility ;)) to adjust the beam for different situations either.
Just think what you liked/disliked about your LL P7 and see if you would lose or gain the features you like/dislike when changing the light.

I have the LD20 Q5 version but not the Lenser. I have to say that I love my LD20. The Q5 and R4 version are slightly different due to the different emitter. The Q5 will throw better than the R4 (The R4 uses an XP-G so it is much floodier). There is not much difference in total brightness, although the R4 low mode has tested a bit stronger  The R4 improves the battery life slightly on all modes due to it being a more efficient emitter. The Q5 on high and turbo throws pretty darn far so unless you have a specific need for extreme throw, it seems to be more than sufficient for most applications. Low mode is excellent for battery life and just everyday stuff. I really like the 2Xaa form factor as well. Teh fact that is regulated is a major plus as it maintains a constant brightness unlike the Lenser direct drive. Of course, there are also several other options at about the price of the Fenix that are very nice in the 2xaa format. the question is are the features of the LD20 really what you want.
Check out this thread for info on the Ld20.

As has been mentioned, decide which features are most important to you and then choose a light for those features or ask for a recommendation based on those features. There are literally hundreds of options out there and specific features can narrow it down to about 5-6 solid choices.

I think that's a pretty good summation.

If you like distance work you'll need a large heap more lumens than 180 from a reflector torch to get it to throw anything like the LLP7 does. Up close the Fenix will probably be just as useful though it's spill won't be as strong as the flood of the LLP7. Fenix has more modes and a "better" battery size but on the other hand the unregulated nature of the LLP7 means you're just about never without at least some amount of light, having many hours of warning before the battery shuts (on NiMH anyway) which is great for people like me out in the countryside at night whereas the fenix can just go dark on you which probably doesn't matter to someone who works in a building near battery stocks.

Good points and bad points for each.

Thanks guys, gonna go with the fenix, i still got my tk 40 if i need more power and i also got my LL X21 if i need even more power:)

thanks for all the info.

I can't speak for newer versions, but my Q5 L2D does not just go out, it has a step down feature and will drop to a lower output when the batteries are running low, which gives the rundown feature you describe for for LLP7.

I was thinking that too. I'd be surprised if the LD20 didn't do something similar.

Hey homeboy.

You have mentioned lights that are locally available from distributors here in SA.
Do you have a problem with online purchasing?

Value wise the order is Olight - LL - Fenix if local pricing is considered.

I would buy online and get a Quark AA^2 Tactical. All my orders (3 now) from 4Sevens took around 2 weeks to get here. Even the basic untracked mail.

If you want a cheapy avaiable locally take a look at the iTP SA2 from the same guy that does Olight. (R450)

If you're going to use this light as an EDC, then I'd steer clear of the LED Lenser P7. That light is just too large in diameter to be used as an EDC light, or at least that's the case for me. I like small diameter lights for EDC use.

One often overlooked feature of the Fenix LD20 is that its body is perfectly shaped for a cigar type of hold. I like to hold my EDC lights in a cigar grip and the LD20 feels so natural when held that way. Large diameter, smooth bodied lights like the P7 usually slip out of a cigar hold.
