This light has never been dropped and is my every day flashlight. If the light is set to normal or turbo it doesn't matter. Sometimes it comes on the first time the switch is clicked and sometimes I can click it on and off 10x and it won't come on.

Will Fenix ship me a new tail switch?

Could be an easy fix.
Try to tighten the lock ring in the tail cap. With needle nose pliers.

Check the tailcap. Unscrew the cap and look inside. You will see the metal retaining ring for the switch, and there will be two little holes opposite each other. Using a pair of needlenose pliers, try and tighten this ring.

If it is loose, tightening it may resolve your issue. If it is already tight, try cleaning the threads on the light, the head and the tailcap, and then retry.

If none of this works, your switch may be faulty.

Or check your battery. :)

Every time I think mine is flaking out, it's the cell. Check all the mating surfaces and be sure they are clean, then lube the O rings with silicone spray. Was probably due for some TLC anyways. ;)

I used a Qtip to wipe them off. It came off gray so I'll see how that works. If that still doesn't work what is Fenix's warranty like?

If you bought from 4Sevens (fenix-store) great. I had a switch that started acting funny, and they sent me a replacement right away... Along with a few new Fenixes. :)

I got it from fenix-store.com Maybe I should just give them a call tomorrow and find out if they can send me a new tail cap. I'm pretty sure that is the only part that is having problems.

you tighten the retaining ring?

I'm not exactly sure what that part is. I see the part with 2 holes in it. I stuck a paper clip in it and tried to move it clockwise and it doesn't budge.

The black part that is around the spring is recessed so I don't see how I could try to tighten that.

I have an l1d and that happened to me too. It would not turn on and sometimes it would. I thought it was the light. But then I changed the battery and it worked perfectly fine. Its those darn energizers. :(

I have the same thing occasionally with L2D.
Whack it on something and it works again.

I did have the tail cap fail once on me.

I wouldn't take this light in some kind of emergency situation. Or if I did, I would take a backup.
