fenix pd31, can use unprotected cells?

Just got my pd31. Fantastic light. Good throw& brightness at an EDC-able size

Now my question is can I use unprotected cells in it like I could with the zebralight sc60?

There is no protection built into the light. I tested mine for another member, it powers up with a SINGLE cr123 (3 volts) but not to full power. You can use unprotected cells but you have to be aware and not let the voltage get too low.
