So my entire collection is either Surefire or Streamlight. But for Christmas my wife bought me a Fenix PD36R Pro. I like the light a lot. The issues I'm having is if I don't use it for a day "about 24 hours" it defaults to eco mode the dimmest setting when I turn it back on, if I use it within a couple hours it will stay on the mode I choose. It will also default to eco mode after it's been plugged in to charge. Is this normal for this particular light? I have emailed Fenix but haven't heard anything back yet.

I believe it is normal after a charge or removing the battery/loosening the tailcap. Otherwise it should memorize the mode it was in when turned off regardless of how much time has passed. Fenix has good customer service and should take care of this for you.

Thanks for sharing this. I have an older Fenix PD35 that I love, and I unquestionably recommend the PD35/PD36 series to anyone looking for a good multi-purpose light. Interesting to see if you get to the bottom of your issue.

My first 'standard' 1x18650 light was the PD35 TAC (the orginal version, not the revised follow-on, which changed), and still sits on my bedside table today:) The 36R is significantly different, but @PhotonWrangler uses his to fix anything / everything in all sorts of situations, so it must be pretty good too;-)

This actually sounds like a plus to me. I try to remember to always cycle any light back down to its dimmest setting after use, so there won't be any blinding surprises when turning it on the next time.

There have been instances where I have annoyed other people by turning a light on, and it was uncomfortably bright for the situation - and I had to make it brighter still before I could dim it back down.

So if the PD36R Pro does this on its own as a default feature, it has my interest.

I love the PD-series. I had a 2014 PD35 (960 Lumen) on my belt as a work light for years. SO much better than any of the Maglite or Ledlenser / Coast lights my colleagues had!

My EDC is a PD36R. I've just checked it for this condition and it remembers my last light setting, even after pulling the battery and reinstalling it. I believe the PD36R was the immediate predecessor of the PD36R Pro.

One man's bug is another man's feature (&V-V). It's a classic thing:)

Some users need MAX output at power-up, every time, without fail (with appropriate non-volatile setting). My PD35 TAC provides that mode option. EDIT: I think the 36 may use a separate button for that (??) Options are good (which is why SL Ten-Tap is so good).

Absolutely.

It just depends on the user preference, or most occuring usecase.
For me though, my usecase is casual use 97 % of the time. And when I need more light, the seconds it takes to double-tap for Turbo is a non-issue.
Biggest problem there is the different control UI by different manufacturers. Where some have Turbo, and others have Strobe - or even lock-out.

Absolutely x2.

If a police officer needs to use a flashlight as a disorientation device during a takedown, he cannot tell the suspect to wait a moment while he ramps up his light to the proper level. Or if someone living around possibly dangerous wildlife, and needs a lot of light NOW to make sure there is no danger nearby.

Glad you got this figured out and that they got back to you quickly! I've always enjoyed Fenix lights.
