I have been using my Fenix TK20 a lot since a bought it. Usually with Energizer Industiral AAs, Alkakine. [below]

Recently I mounted the torch on a pole and used it underwater for spearing flatfish at night.

Problem is I went thru 2 sets of batteries in about 30mins!.
Is this normal? Batteries last for longer when I just use it as a flashlight i.e not continious.

Should I be using a different type of bettery for continous use or is it a function of LED torches not liking continous use?

I have read (here maybe?) that alkaline batts have low capacity in high current drain applications, and their extremely high internal resistance makes the voltage drop under load, which only makes the available current go down.

Please help.

Get some Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries and a half decent charger and you won't look back. The Alkalines probably don't like the current draw of the TK20, especially on turbo.

You are right that alkalines don't perform in high current applications.

You've also observed another characteristic of alkaline batteries: they deliver more under a pulsed load than a continuous load.

Eneloops are able to deliver much more under this load I'd think.

Same thing happened to me in a totally different way!

I bought a couple of 2 stage eagletacs, advertised at 1.5 hrs on turbo, but found 15 minutes was more like it on cheap alkalines, and 30 mins on more well known ones!!!!!

Now im on Eneloops, and find that its much better, not the 1.5 hours perhaps, as i use it as a flashlight, but i would imagine of i turned it on for 1.5 hours and left it on they would do as they say!

I am thinking of giving NiZi a bash though, anyone got any feed back on them, and do they give you a bit of extra kick??????
