I managed to handle both lights recently and i am impressed with the feel
and quality of both. i even managed to light them up inside the store just to make
sure no green tint in the led.

unfortunately the lights are sold in different stores so i couldnt do a direct comparison
of the hot spot / beam. i read that the TK41 does 55,000lux(?) while the
M3X does 42,000. comparing the videos of both in goinggear's youtube review
the tk41 does seem to be slightly brighter at the same long range.

anyone here can confirm this? and hows the handling / practicality of these
two throwers.

thanks.🙂

The TK41 is rated by Fenix at 56k lux @ 1 meter BUT ANSI standards say they can measure this at 2 meters, 10 meters, or 30 meters and calculate back to 1 meter. I've found the farther away I take a measurement, the higher the lux @ 1 meter. Perhaps it takes that long for the beams to converge (I don't know the reason for this). I measured the M3X at 5 meters and calculated back to 1 to get 42k lux @ 1 meter. I measured the M3X again at 10 meters and got 52,800 lux @ 1 meter (when calculating back to 1 meter). Fenix seems to do their measurements at 30 meters which is why the light is rated at 56k lux @ 1 meter. The M3X is slightly more powerful than the TK41 and throws very slightly farther. The difference is nearly nothing.

this ANSI standard threw a wrench into the system it seems as the lux @ 1 meter standard now has another standard beside it.
anyways thanks for the reply. might get the m3x because of this. 🙂

It is the same thing. The ANSI standard value for intensity is given in cd. 1cd = 1 lux @ 1 meter. The thing that is a little goofy is that you can measure it at 2, 10, or 30 meters allowing manufacturers to pick which one is better for their specific light.

your right, have read a lot of flashaholics measuring there lux from different distances
and getting different readings when calculated back to 1 meter. have to read up on the latest posts regarding ANSI measurements. thanks for the info.

If you want the ultimate thrower:

Dereelight DBS Aspheric 1.5A XPE-R2 EZ900 90k+ lux

Also the Crelant 7G5 V2

both beat the lights you mentioned.

The M3X is the better thrower. The TK41 isn't far behind and it's the better quality light.

The M3X, Crelant 7G5, Sunwayman T40CS and Fenix TK41 are all great thowers for XM-L's. I have them all and they are really pretty close.

The M3X, Sunwayman T40CS and 7G5 and in a category of there own with more throw than the TK41 however the TK 41 has more modes and stuff.
