After over week or so having a think about getting a Led Lenser David 19 I changed my mind and actually settled for a beautiful little MX Power AA LED torch. This baby only uses 1 AA battery in which I'm using Sanyo Eneloop (bought 1 packet of 4xAA and 1 packet of 4xAAA). The torch says on it MX Power 1w Super Bright.

Not a bad torch at all for the size and operating on 1xAA battery, output of the LED is nice. I'm not sure thought what LED it uses but I'm assuming Nichia from Japan, but I did actually find it to be probably bit brighter than my Minimag LED, but this I have to re-check and confirm.

So far I'm very happy with it

This is what it looks like:

I think Philips Lumileds makes Luxeon LED's. I think Nichia, Cree, and Seoul Semi-Conductor LED's are all made by different companies.
The Luxeon LED's are being replaced by Cree's and SSC's. in most of the newer lights because they are much more efficient as the Luxeons. Basically you can get the same brightness as a Luxeon with a Cree or SSC at twice the runtime or you can get twice the brightness at the same runtime. This is an oversimlification but you get the idea. Luxeon now makes the new Rebel LED. My knowledge of all this is limited so I may be a bit off here and there but I think for the most part I am correct.

The link is timing out for me...
Anyway there is no such thing as Nichia + Luxeon.
Nichia is a manufacturer from Japan
Luxeon is a brand name used by a completely different company, LumiLEDs which is part of Phillips.

It is likely you have an old Nichia LED in there.
It never hurts to ask here first before buying. You'll get lots of opinions, but at the least you'll have a very good idea of what you're actually buying.

MX power makes many different kinds of torches.

The one CPF members are most familiar with was the one using a Nichia 0.5W Rigel LED shown here.

They also make a 1W version. It could be using a Nichia Jupiter LED.

They made many other torches including a 3xCree version.

-----

Nichia made the 1st 5mm LED about 3 lumens. Very dim

Then Lumileds made the Luxeon I capable of 42 lumens, the Luxeon III 75 lumens, Luxeon V 125 lumens. So the Luxeon name became very famous for being a lot brighter than a Nichia 5mm LED.

Since very few people have heard of the Nichia Jupiter 1.2W, it is easier to sell 'Nichia's equivalent of the Luxeon' instead of 'Nichia Jupiter'. Unfortunately shortened to Nichia Luxeon.

Many dealers loosely if not downright dishonestly refer to any high power LED as Luxeon.

Hi Led Ninja interesting links you attached. Now for me to explain. When I bought my torch there were other torches there that were identical in looks, size etc but it said on Nichia LED Made In Japan. My torch though identical as the ones you posted in your post/answer above did not say Nichia LED Made In Japan buy just said MX Power, 1w LED Super Bright. Now quite strangely enough I did try almost all the MX Power torches there in the shop (these were the ones that were smilar to mine) but to say the least mine seemed to have the best focused beam, even I found the Nichia one to have a ver slight yellow tinge in its beam, though it was an LED and it seemed that out of the 6 MX Power torches I tested everyone seemed to have very slight different beam/LED, even the shop keeper noticed it. The one I got seemed to have the most whitest and most focused beam. The reason why I got this torch was it was great value for money; paid $28 Aussie, where as the Led Lenser David 19 was $55, and when it came to brightness I really didnt seeem to find much a difference between my MX Power and the David 19. Also I'm using 1x AA Sanyo Eneloop in it, infact I've converted all my LED torches to Sanyo Eneloops and skipped the Alkalines, hopefully I will see better results. I'm not sure how many lumens my MX Power is though. What I do find though is the back switch is a bit stiff to push, but I'm getting use to it and managing it quite well.

Since you can play with all the torches and can pick the best one you got a good deal. The last 2 Fenix torches I got I bought at a local store. I paid up to $10 more than the Fenix store price but am glad I got the torches I can use (L0D CE, L1T v2) instead of what what everyone on CPF was RA RAing about (P3D CE - 2X as bright but too long for me to EDC).
