Have there been beam shots of the two optics yet? I only ordered the Fraen, but would like to see the other one too.

Back on page 7 of this thread Halibut has a post with a link to the beamshots.
Hope this helps.

Re: Firefly second run pre-sale now open!!

Hey , inluxication I think that the reason that no one has provided solid answers to your questions is perhaps twofold. First, unless I'm mistaken and there are more definite questions than your "straw man" in another post , then it may be vague (to some) as to what info you have and what info you need. Second, info like candela requires a meter and lumens requires one of those doohickey spheres which are very expensive and almost no one except big manufacturers have them , plus getting it all together is time consuming. But, the good news is that it is pretty likely that you can find some of the info by searching for bb650/luxIII/cr123 setups. The specs should be very similar to the ff2. I also think that most people aren't that concerned with the hard numbers because A)Dspeck has a good reputation B)Wayne Yamaguchi is damn near the hub of mod community and is supplying Dspeck with ff2 innards C)ff1 was kickass for it's time and is still a sweet light and the ff2 offers numerous improvements over ff1.
If all this is already obvious to you then please just take this response as maybe a little somethin to get the ball rolling and maybe someone else who really knows will pipe up.

Re: Firefly second run pre-sale now open!!

This thread is so loooong... sorry if soneone else had already posted this. When is delivery going to happen? I know it hasn't been that long, but if feels like forever.

anxiously waiting for my firefly rev2

Re: Firefly second run pre-sale now open!!

xochi,

As to what info I have and what I need, pretend I have none, and take everything from length to lumens as questions.

While it's not a bad idea to search on bb650/luxIII/cr123, I've done lots of searching, and I really really really wish that Wayne or DSpeck would simply put forward the numbers that they presumably know. Searching is tiring, especially when searching for many disparate bits of information, some info may be missing or outdated, and for instance I found at least 4 different postings on FF1 length and diameter, not all quite the same.

I grant you that lumens are hard to come by, but everything else is pretty easy. Even lux: a Meterman LM631 retails for about $100, and you can get them for under half that on ebay, which is pretty modest compared to even one Firefly. I have one... but I don't have a Firefly or BB650/luxIII.

As you say, one could just proceed with faith in DSpeck and Wayne, and maybe that's what I should do. But it seems normal to supply information on stuff you're selling, I like information on stuff I'm buying, I imagine they have this information, and so I wish they'd give it to us. Why not?

"I really really really wish that Wayne or DSpeck would simply put forward the numbers...."

Me too, sure would be nice to know how it compares , bang for the buck and all...

Re: Firefly second run pre-sale now open!!

"Bang for the Buck" is a total package that surely includes, presentation, reliability, usability, after market support etc. Pardon me if I start to sound like a broken record but I just can't possibly enjoy a product that only delivers the most light for the buck... but that dies on me at a critical moment. Or one that's a hassle to cross-grade, maintain or whose maker can't turn a profit on selling to us, forcing them to close shop. No. I maintain that the best value is a totally balanced package- Surely we're perhaps too focused on sheer output to the exclusion of what a flashlight is... a personal tool to be used for actually illuminating a subject so we can pretend it's day when it's really night- Oops! gotta run and do beamshots. Heh! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Perhaps, we CPF members are afraid of the dark? My new brass Fire~Fly will take care of that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Firefly second run pre-sale now open!!

The Fire~Fly is .8" diameter, and approximately 2.75" long (plus or minus). I don't have a light meter for those readings. The weight is 1.2oz without battery, and 1.8oz with battery. The LuxIIIs are nice and white.

These numbers are all approximate, and are for the FF1. The FF2 will vary slightly, but not enough to notice.

The finish will indeed be gunmetal HA3, as it says in the initial post of this thread. The logo is in the final stages of work now.

The BB650 puts 650mA through the LuxIII, and I don't know the current draw from the battery. We expect the battery life to be over 1 hour, but I haven't got the final numbers. The LuxIIIs will be nice and white, no choice of bins available unless I hear otherwise.

Hope this helps! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Firefly second run pre-sale now open!!

Doug, thanks for that info; it does help. Apparently the FF weighs even less than I had thought!

Wayne, could _you_ supply battery current-draw (you probably know it in your sleep), run time, and maybe lux output from your BB650/LuxIII modules? I'd really like to have an idea of the brightness with the Fraen or NX05 optics in question, but any info would be better than none.

Aten, of course it's not just about lumens/$, but we all know roughly what the FF is (that's why we're interested), and my questions included size and weight and run time and appearance. Lumens/$ would be a very different light.

Re: Firefly second run pre-sale now open!!

My girlfriend just sent PayPal for me (late birthday present):

Complete FF with 2-stage switch, NX05, and shipping: $125

Glad to get in on the pre-sale... even had a few days to spare.

Thanks.

Hi DSpeck,

May I humbly suggest that you simply edit your original posts with this & other info like the new pricing & cut-off dates to enlighten those not already in the know & to save yourself being bombarded repeatedly with numerous questions so that you can focus your energy & time on sending these new little Fire~Flies on their way to anxious new owners. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Cheers,
