First Arc AAA

I got my first Arc AAA this week! I received it from a certain CPF memeber. It is a Turquoise Arc AAA. It looks more green than turquoise...but it is REALLY bright, almost perceptively as bright as my PT Attitude with fresh batteries.

But the only thing is...i don't like green. I thought it was gonna be a bluish turquoise color. The intense green sort of strains my eyes when used for close up work. I consider it a novelty color.

BUT i just LOVE the construction of this light. It feels like it is practically indestructable. So i'm planning for another Arc AAA purchase. Can anyone recommend any other colors that they enjoy using? If you have too many of once color...or don't have the EV Arc AAA...i'm willing to trade for a different color.

How is the blue Arc? or even the Red? The last color i want to get is the white one. WHY? Because i have a Lambda Illuminator!!!! THat's enoegh white for me! BUT the small size of the Arc AAA you just can't beat. These things are addictive!!!!

I'll post some pics when i get the time to get them ready. The Arc AAA turquoise has a very bad light pattern with a lot of rings - kind of like a Mag AA. Have any of you tried putting tape over the head of the LED? I kind of modded my Arc in this way - i looks like it came with a beam shaper lens! I'll take some pics soon.

LEDagent,

Well, you answered a question I was going to post a topic on tonight
grin.gif
; it involved nomenclature and my TTS order....I didn't know what "EV Turquoise" meant. I thought maybe EV meant that I would get a different model light than the AAA.

I have 2 white ones (was so impressed, I got another for my fiancee's keychain!) and have ordered a UV one (talk about NOVELTY color!).

I think my next will be a red AAA. As a pilot I love red lights, they're great for night vision.

I recall reading that the Turquoise was the same LED as those used in the new green traffic lights--should I expect that same tint? Is that how yours looks?

Thanks,

/TCP

PS: I have an ARC LS second on the way, but I sure hope it doesn't replace my ARC AAA or my SF E1e!!!

LEDagent,

Yeah, but try using your Lambda Illuminator to read by at night and see what your significant other says!

I'm boring...all I have are white leds...
Aloha

I talked to this fellow on the phone. The leds are 5600 or maybe even higher cause the company has been updating their leds so it is possible to get a higher one but no way to know for sure. 5600 minimum. I ordered several different angles to experiment with. I just got into this led flashlight thing.

You guys know that there's an entire forum for Arc products in the mfg area, right? Nothing wrong with posting here - I just wanted to let you know that you can learn more about Arc products than you ever wanted imagined if you have the time...

The Turquoise is the color of the new traffic lights (well, the "green" light at any rate). The EV is simply the brightest turquoise currently available.

As much as you like your colored AAA's, you'll end up with a white one eventually. There is no comparison, and there is no substitute! I have tons of white light too, but for most situations, the white AAA Arc is just the RIGHT amount of white light. Up-close tasks, reading, finding something in the car while travelling. I use the white AAA more than any other light I own. I'm sucker for color retention, and I love the smooth beam as compared to colored lights.

I don't think you'll be able to buy one of the older R-ranked bulbs. All the current white AAA's have S-ranked bulbs which is noticeably brighter. One can hope that T is right arond the corner...

Since I'm on the road, this is my "short" reply

Yes, I too like color retention. I keep my Arc AAA in my pocket, and it goes everywhere with me.

I find the Arc most useful because it's small and I can easily hold it with my teeth when doing a task where I need two hands.

I am an amateur astronomer, so I have a need for red light too. I really like the Arc, but I'm not sure I want to pay $25 for a red light, when bright red LEDs are so abundant and cheap. Besides, I like to tinker on things and may build my own.

I did make a cool UV keychain light.

BTW, what does EV stand for, anyway?

Well,

I got my ARC AAA in Turquoise today, and yep, it's just like the green traffic lights!

Being that it's still daytime I can't really judge the brightness yet, but we'll find out tonight

.

All I can say is, it looks DARN BRIGHT! I'm convinced EV stands for "Enhanced Visibility!"

TCP,
As I told you about the P61 & the X5, you'll like the ARC EV. Whoever, you probably won't use it as much as the white ARC. But it is a bright, fun light, and I don't find that it bothers my night vision. I think the color has a lot to do with that. TX

buddTX,

EV only refers to the Turquoise ARC AAA, and I only know that because Texas Tactical advertises it as such.

It is by far, brighter than my white ones. It's also brighter than my CMG Infinity in green (well, ALL CMG colors for that matter). I think it's bright enough to compromise my night vision, unlike my red Infinity.

txwest, you're right...I'm NOT going to use this as much as my white ARC, and certainly not in the cockpit, but I can definitely see the turquoise as a useful light for camping etc.

TCP,

GREAT question! Yes...just take a look at those new LED traffic signals and that's exactly how these EV Turquoise LEDs look. THey are very bright and will ruin your night vision after using it for a few minutes in the dark. Even my Lambda Illuminator wasn't enoegh to help me see after my night vision was shot to hell!

But i was also thinking of getting a red and blue LED just because they look cool. Then eventually a white one. DAMN...i thought my cravings would end after getting the Lambda Illuminator and my first Arc. I guess not...

I would like to know as well.

As for buying a red Arc AAA....i say just buy it. It may be way too bright for star gazing but it is better than anything you can get out there. If you decide on getting a Photon or any other keychain light think about this....battery life and light output.

THe Arc AAA may have the same light output as a Photon. for example, but it cannot maintain a constant bright output for 5 hours. You just can't beat Gransee's products.

what's the beam angle look like on the turquoise ones? wide like the photons?

Regarding TCpilots comment: "I'm NOT going to use this as much as my white ARC, and certainly not in the cockpit."....

We used an Arc AAA Turquoise in our automobile durring cross-country night driving. The light was very satisfactory for passengers to rumage around for stuff, and the driver (me) found it to be less distracting than white light. It seemed as though the turquoise, being so different from the headlighted envronment outside, didn't distract or hinder my perception of things outside the car.

In general, I have a much more favorable view of the T. Arc AAA than is being represented here. The beam and color of every LED is different, like fingerprints. The thing to do is buy several; pick out the best for yourself, and give away the others as gifts. My Arc AAA EV is one of my most prized flashlights, but it is the best of 4 Ts that I've purchased.

Termac,

I agree with you, the Arc T is a great light; it's just that my cockpit lights are red, and I think it would be easier on my eyes to use more red light should I or a passenger/copilot need to rummage around for stuff.

OTOH, my dashboard lights in my truck are green.....hmmmm....perhaps the Turquoise will become my truck light

Actually the traffic light LEDS look green while the arc turquiose has more of a bluish tint beacuse its running at a much higher amps.
