i have recently recieved my QIII that i decided to order after hearing that it was a top notch EDC. i just got the LSH mod a week or so ago, and before that I EDC'd a T1 for quite some time, that i got when everyone was still going: "T1? they arent on Inova's site? what's a T1? is it worth it?" prior to that i had an LSHF-P (Fraen optics, bright, no sidespill (like a T1), and squarish hotspot)
so i decided to write this mini overview of what I think.
here are the specs:
Inova T1 - stock as a rock
ARC LSH mod - 667ma Lux3 mod w/17mm IMS reflector, UCL
QIII - stock for now, but will be upgraded with mineral glass and a TW0J emitter.
Having very little and very ringy sidespill, the T1 remains throw king of the 3 and despite being a Lux1? *confused* Its bin is unknown, but it looks a bit on the very slightly pinkish side like the LSH (but so does the LSH mod which is a known TW0J) when viewed next to the QIII i recieved, which seemed to have a greenish tint to me.
The LSH mod is nice but it gets uncomfortably warm after about 5 minutes. There's a good amount of sidespill with the smooth 17mm reflector, and the hotspot is about the same size as a T1, but looks only 75%-85% as bright. Good trail walking light i think if it didnt warm up so much. there are very minor slightly darker barely noticable blemishes in the hotspot but i think that's due to the reflector having small imperfections its the base.
The QIII has the smoothest beam of the trio, as is to be expcted wih an orange peel reflector. The perimeter of the sidespill is very slightly pentagonal because of the scallops in the bezel, the tint is less desireable for me than the TW0J, so the swap will be made shortly. and as everyone is aware, it's a bin lottery. I would definitely consider it a flood light for all intents and purposes, the hotspot is about 70% the size of the T1 and LSH and is considerably dimmer. It also fades into the sidespill very evenly. I did, however, expect this light to be brighter for a stock Lux3, but I wont say anything till i have a mineral glass lens and a TW0J in there. this is a light thats good for closeup work and good for illuminating small interior spaces like a computer case or an engine compartment and i might actually EDC it now after it has better tint.
my two questions remain: the LSH 667ma TW0J Lux3 mod gets VERY toasty to hold after 5 mins. I don't even want to think about how hot the *supposedly overdriven* electronics get, i got scared and turned it off after that. is this normal for a mod like this? will it hurt the LSH circuit?
the T1 is a Lux1!!! and it has a good amount more throw than both the Lux3s in the LSH and the QIII which both utilize reflectors. what's the deal? are INOVA's TIROS optics this revolutionary? i know there is some sidespill that isnt getting focused into the hotspot on the other two, but they're Lux3s here, not Lux1s.
i will post beamshots tonight when i get home and have a chance to take pics
