Greetings all! I've been lurking for about 5 months now, decided it was time to register (after satisfying the mod bug that got to me

)

I received both white and blue-green luxeons earlier this week, and decided to put the white in my Cateye bike light...it's documented here:

Cateye Luxeon mod

Now I'm faced with the temptation of buying more Luxeons!

Is it too late for me, or is there some magical cure for this?

Nice. Sounds like a neat deal on the battery, too.

Sorry to tell you this, but the only magical cure (which you've probably already figured out..) is to buy more lights..

Cool mod, man! Please give us an update when the battery is fully charged - I'm wondering what that 4V is capable of 'cos rechargeables like those are cheap and easy to find here too!

Good job. I like the package and battery combination. What do you charge it with?

Thanks all

The luxeon gets a little warm, but the sheet metal helps dissipate the heat a little.

As far as recharging, I'm just poking a couple wires into the plug...the wires go to a variable voltage source that's breadboarded.

I'm not sure how fast I can charge the battery...I can vary the voltage with a pot, and have been keeping the charge current under 100mA. If anyone is certian this little lead-acid can charge faster, let me know!

I rewired the thing this afternoon (did better soldering and wire routing), found some better screws and nuts, and centered the luxeon in the head - it's looking good now!

I think I've got the battery mostly charged...I updated the page with a new beamshot (last photo).

One more update:
After just under 5 hours of continuous running, a quick test revealed the CatLux (CatEyeLS?) about as bright as an Arc AAA with a newish battery.
