Hello guys!!!!!!

First post here and I have started collecting flashlights.I recently aquired a Fenix LD20 for my first nice torch. But I now have an urge to get a Torch that throws far and that will make peoples say what the heck is that. I have been on dealextreme but there is so many light I cant tell what is crap and what is good to many choices.

Is dealext good to deal with? Or is there stores in the USA that carry stuff at excellent prices?

I want something that blows my LD20 away at an affordable price!!

So far I have been looking at
MTE-M3-2 MCE
Solarforce
Ultrafire
Tiablo

lovecpf

If you have patience then dx is the way to go. For that wow factor at a discounted price then stick with that site. Look at a flashlight with a p7 or mc-e emitter. For a smaller form factor get a flashlight that utilizes a single 18650 battery. I prefer mte or aurora. I have had issues with a trustfire flashlight I purchased in the past. Try my other posts for some beamshots to help you decide. Good luck to you.

The MTE P-7 is supposed to be a pretty good cheap light from DX and very bright, but I don't think a P-7 will throw as good as an R-2.

From what I have read I think MTE is the best brand to go with for a p7 or mc-e light from DX. I just ordered a MTE MC-E light myself a few days ago, haven't received it yet of course though.

I think the brand Solarforce is better than MTE, if you can find it in DX or KD. Sorry, I can not visit DX because of the GFW.

Where can I get an MTE or the other brands listed above in the States??? I hate waiting for stuff thats 10k miles away!:nana:

I don't really know of any vendors for dx brand lights in the us. Shiningbeam usually carries some, but they havent gotten any p7 or mc-e lights yet. I have talked to the guy who runs it though, and he said they are planning to stock them in the future. When I can't say. Maybe ebay?

From my experience the MTE will have great throw, but it mainly is a flood light with a P7.

The MC-E and P7's are almost all flood. If you want a torch thrower; than an R2 with a big bezel/reflector like the MTE would fit the bill better.

The R2 would have more throw and hot spot, but be limited to around 250 lumens.

The P7/MC-E with huge bezel will have some throw, but it will offer way more flood. You can achieve 700 lumens with this set-up, but the R2 would have given you more throw.

If you want both I think you would have to swith to incandescent lamp assemblies.
EX: I tried a Husky spotlight (custom made by Kramer5150) with a R2 on direct drive that has the most throw I have ever seen. It has a 3in plus diameter bezel. Out throws the M60 easily.

I just tried it against a 6P bored with 18650 extention and IMR 500 lumen D26 drop-in (incandescent).
It throws equally as far, but it has tons of flood at distance and at close range. You get both flood and throw, but you will have to go incan.

Edit: The R2 spot light has over 3 hours of use on a single charge, while the IMR 500 lumen incan lamp is limited to 30 minutes or so....

More output doesn't mean more throw. How much throw depends on size of emitting surface, size of reflector, and how much output. The lights you are looking at(first, most are probably 400-500 lumen) throw pretty far, because of output.

I don't have experience with any of those lights but the Tiable ACE should be best quality wise(and the most expensive one too)

:welcome:

How about the new yet to be released lights. The Fenix TK40 puts out 630 lumens and supposedly throws pretty well. Also my personal choice would the the eagletac megalight. It puts out a whopping 900 lumens, has an easy interface and supposedly throws decent. The TK40 uses 8 AAs and the megalight uses 2 side by side 18650 cells, if that helps you decide.

R2? What is it and where can I find it? Thanks

The R2 comes in two of my favorate flavors.
One the deerlight.com Cree R2 with 3 modes. You can order it with 1 cell or up to 4 cell use.

Next, the Deal Extreme website sells these Cree R2's for $10 dollars delivered. The Cree R2 from DX say up to 200 lumens. The same Cree R2's are sold on EBay where people claim they are 200 to 400 lumens:whistle::oops::whistle:
Don't buy those because you could just get the Deal Extreme ones for a quarter of the price the ebay ones cost.

Also,
The Deerlight cost up to $38 dollars, but they provide slightly more lumens (IMHO up to 230) due to 1.2amp draw. What your are paying more for is the option of having differnt modes and better beam quality.

Note: No LED produces a better beam than my Malkfoff Devices M60. That is just my opinion. Search M60 and read all about it or go to Gene's website. Quality does cost more

It is still a quad die LED emitter. It will have some throw because it has a ton of lumens, but it is still a P7/ MC-E design. I have used quad die LED emitters and the bigger the bezel and the added lumens the more throw, but the R2 still has more throw. I think it is the nature of the beast. Maybe some here can explain why an R2 with a smaller bezel and less lumens will out throw a bigger bezel higher lumen P7. I just know from using both if I want max throw it will be a R2. If I want a good amount of throw and spill it is P7 with 2.5-3in bezel.

Now, If what I wanted was something that had the flood of a P7 with more throw than an R2 I would get an Incandescent set-up. Probably a KT-1 turbo head with IMR 6 700 lumens for a conservative approach. There are way more powerfull options out there.

I have an older Fenix L2D CE that only 135 Lumens can I put a Cree R2 in it? And would it make much of a difference from the stock Cree 7090 XR-E? I use 2 x 2650 batteries in the Fenix.

I will never buy from DX again because of all the problems I have had with them.

If you want a light that will really WOW then build yourself a P7 mag. Get a 3d mag, P7 and heatsink form 4sevens.com and some rechargable D-cell's. Put it all together and BAM! one bright a$$ light.

They are the same LED except of a different flux bin. Both are Cree XR-E LEDs, except the R2 is more efficient/brighter then the P4 or Q2 that the L2D-CE has. You'll get more output with the R2.

You use 2 AA batteries right? I'm guessing 2650 is a rated capcity in mAh.
