Just joined the forum this weekend and want to thank everyone for the great information here. I don't think I have ever bought a flashlight outside of Home Depot or Lowe's and really wanted to graduate to something with much higher quality. I never knew that flashlights could be so sophisticated. Google searching led me here, and after a few hours of reading and comparing, I made the following purchases:

1) Dorcy 180 Lumen Cyber Lights (3 each) - just wanted something inexpensive with a lot of light output to leave in various locations around the house.
2) Quark X AA2 Neutral White - my first high quality flashlight. Love that it runs on AA batteries and has so many light modes.
3) Quark AA R5 Edition - little brother to the X AA2 which I plan to keep in my car
4) Thrunite Ti Blue - for my wife to carry on her keychain. Looks amazing for its size

What do you think of my choices for a total noob? What type of lights should I consider adding next? I'll be using the lights around the house and for safety at night. I didn't really study the different types of batteries and limited my research to AA or AAA lights. Is there a good resource where I could learn about the different power options? Thanks again for your help!

Nice start to your collection. I just got a EagleTac D25LC2 n.w and love it. I run it on a 18650, very nice!! Take a look at their D clicky series lots of different choices to fit your needs. You also cant go wrong with a Zebralight sc600, good luck!!!

Hey, :welcome:

I also recently purchased the CW D25LC2. (Update: I unfortunately purchased it. Not a good light) Definitely do plenty of research before buying. You will continue to be amazed at how huge the flashlight world is.

If you want to get some info on batteries, maybe check out this thread and this thread. And this thread covers a plethora of stuff battery related.

in my personal opinion you should flip the X to the AA tube and the R5 to the 2AA tube. Then you'll have amazing throw (higher power) on the 2AA and a nice neutral flood on the 1AA for closeup stuff
